Coach Ron Rivera is hopeful Jonathan Stewart (knee) can play Week 5 against the Bears.

Stewart practiced on a limited basis last Friday before missing Sunday's loss to the Ravens. With DeAngelo Williams' ankle in a cast and out this week, the Panthers will hope Stewart can give it a go, even at less than 100 percent. If Stewart can play, it's a plus matchup, though we wouldn't expect him to carry a full load. Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker, and Chris Ogbonnaya round out the depth chart.

Texans released RB Ronnie Brown.

Brown, 32, appeared in two games for the Texans, rushing six times for four yards and catching one pass for five yards. Houston will move forward with Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes behind Arian Foster. Former No. 2 overall pick Brown's career is very likely over. He's just a veteran presence at this stage.

DeAngelo Williams' ankle is in a hard cast.

This after he had the injured ankle in a walking boot earlier this week. It suggests Williams will certainly miss an extended period of time after he revealed to fans on Monday that he's dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker, and Chris Ogbonnaya are expected to handle backfield duties Week 5.

Free agent S Chris Clemons worked out for the Falcons.

After losing SS William Moore (shoulder) to short-term I.R. this week, the Falcons are in dire need of safety help. For now, 2013 seventh-rounder Kemal Ishmael is expected to start next to FS Dwight Lowery. Clemons is probably the best safety on the street. He started 32-of-32 games for Miami from 2012-2013.

After testing his injured thumb on Monday, Josh McCown plans to avoid surgery.

McCown says he's feeling better, but it may not really matter at this point. Mike Glennon led the Bucs to a comeback win over the Steelers last Sunday and may remain the team's starter, even though coach Lovie Smith is refusing to commit to him past Week 5. McCown remains week-to-week.

Seahawks TE Luke Willson will start while Zach Miller (ankle) is sidelined.

Willson, a 2013 fifth-rounder, is a toolsy pass-catching prospect who goes 6'5/251 with 4.51 speed. He can certainly stretch the seam Monday night against a Redskins defense getting shredded by tight ends, but volume in this spread-the-wealth passing attack will be a concern. Willson's snaps also project to be limited by his deficiencies as a blocker. We'd rather take a shot on Austin Seferian-Jenkins as a TE1 streamer.

The Lions worked out free agent RBs Tashard Choice and Alex Green.

With Montell Owens (hamstring) placed on I.R., the Lions are updating their emergency list. In addition to hosting both running backs, the Lions also had WRs Damian Williams and Ramses Barden in for tryouts. Choice is 29.

Lane Johnson was the Eagles' first-team right tackle in Tuesday's practice.

It's confirmation Johnson won't spend any time "getting up to speed" on the bench after he was suspended for the season's first four games. Johnson's return allows Todd Herremans to move back to right guard, greatly fortifying the Eagles' struggling line in the process. C Jason Kelce and LG Evan Mathis' absences will continue to loom large, however.
