Diamondbacks recalled RHP Jake Barrett from Triple-A Reno.

Barrett has a 4.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 18/7 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this season at the major league level. The 26-year-old right-hander will work in middle relief.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Jimmie Sherfy to Triple-A Reno.

Sherfy earned his first major league win after throwing a scoreless inning Monday night against the Mets, but the Diamondbacks will add a fresh bullpen arm ahead of Tuesday's game. Sherfy should be back when rosters expand on September 1.

Diamondbacks activated OF Reymond Fuentes from the 10-day disabled list.

Fuentes wound up missing a little over a month with a left thumb contusion. He has batted just .240/.276/.350 in 41 games this season for Arizona.
Aug 22 - 4:34 PM

Diamondbacks placed C Jeff Mathis on the 10-day disabled list with an avulsion fracture in his right hand.

Mathis suffered the injury in Monday's series opener against the Mets when he got hit on the throwing hand by a foul tip. If he's done for the season, which seems probable, the veteran catcher will finish with a .213/.276/.322 batting line in 58 games.

Marcus Semien (wrist) is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Orioles.

Semien was lifted from Monday's series opener in Baltimore after irritating the scar tissue in his surgically-repaired right wrist, but the discomfort shouldn't keep him out long. Chad Pinder will start at shortstop and bat seventh Tuesday versus O's right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez.
Aug 22 - 4:29 PM

Mariners recalled RHP Daniel Altavilla from Triple-A Tacoma.

Altavilla had registered a 1.08 ERA over his last 15 appearances with Tacoma. He'll work in a middle relief role in Seattle.
Aug 22 - 4:27 PM

Mariners placed RHP Tony Zych on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 20, with a right elbow flexor bundle strain.

Zych also missed some time at the beginning of this season with a right biceps injury. Daniel Altavilla will fill his spot in the Mariners' bullpen.

Addison Russell (foot) said Tuesday that he's aiming to return to the Cubs' active roster in "maybe a week and a half."

Russell is expected to take batting practice with his Cubs teammates ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Reds and he could be ready to embark on a minor league rehab over the weekend. The young shortstop has been sidelined since the first week of August due to symptoms of plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
