Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-2 win against the White Sox.

Solarte went yard off of David Robertson in the fifth inning for his second spring home run. Officially in a super utility role, Solarte nears the end of spring training carrying a .310 average (18-for-58).

Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-2 with a walk and a three-run home run on Wednesday against the White Sox.

Gyorko's three-run home run off of Jeff Samardzija capped off a five-run outburst in the first inning. The 26-year-old has had a solid spring showing, batting .283 (15-for-53) with a pair of home runs and six RBI. With a revamped Padres offense, Gyorko is less integral, but the Padres are still hoping to see a bounce-back from last year's disappointing .612 OPS.

James Shields twirled a trio of scoreless innings in his final start of the spring Wednesday against the White Sox.

Shields looked regular season-ready, yielding only three hits without issuing a walk and striking out two. In Cactus League play, Shields allowed six earned runs in 19 1/3 innings with a 23/5 K/BB ratio. He now has the unenviable task of facing Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw on Opening Day.

Jeff Samardzija, making his final spring training start, gave up five runs in four innings versus the Padres on Wednesday.

The Padres racked up six hits against the right-hander, including a three-run Jedd Gyorko home run which capped off a five-run first inning. Samardzija walked none and struck out three. He would have liked to post better spring results, as he owns an 8.44 ERA over 22 1/3 innings, but he'll have to live with it. Samardzija will start on Opening Day on Monday against Royals' right-hander Yordano Ventura.

Robbie Ray fired three scoreless innings in Wednesday's 3-0 Cactus League win against the Reds.

Ray allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out three. The lefty has had a rough spring, losing out on a chance to join the starting rotation, but he reportedly remains in the running along with Archie Bradley for the final spot in the Diamondbacks' bullpen.

Yasmany Tomas was responsible for all three runs scored in Wednesday's Cactus League match-up against the Reds.

Tomas cleared the bases with a fourth-inning double off of Johnny Cueto, the only scoring that occurred on the afternoon. After a slow start to the spring, Tomas has brought his numbers back to respectability, batting .274 (17-for-62) with 11 RBI. However, the Diamondbacks are reportedly considering having Tomas begin the season in the minor leagues with the aim of using him both at third base and in left field.

Brendan Ryan is likely to begin the season on the disabled list after suffering a calf strain Wednesday.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he would be "very surprised" if Ryan is ready for the season opener after being helped off the field in the sixth inning of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game. Ryan will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the strain. He was slated to be the primary backup to shortstop Didi Gregorius, so while the injury affects the Yankees it doesn't have much bearing on fantasy.

Archie Bradley went six scoreless innings in his final start of the spring Wednesday against the Reds.

Bradley walked three, but allowed only one hit and struck out two. The young right-hander lowers his ERA to 1.61 over 22 1/3 spring innings. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks are considering using Bradley or Robbie Ray out of the bullpen to start the season. Bradley enters the season as a consensus top-25 prospect.
