Nick Swisher is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers due to family reasons.

No word on when he'll be ready to return. Drew Stubbs will start in right field Monday while Jason Giambi serves as the DH and Mark Reynolds plays first base.

Andrew McCutchen (knee) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Cubs.

McCutchen was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to right knee soreness, but it was never a major concern. He should be fine moving forward.

Starling Marte is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Cubs.

He's just getting the day off. Jose Tabata will make the start in left field while Garret Jones plays right. Gaby Sanchez is at first base.

Zack Cozart (illness) is back in Tuesday's lineup.

Cozart sat out Sunday and Monday due to illness, but he's ready to give it a go. The 27-year-old is hitting just .206/.233/.338 with five home runs, 20 RBI an a .570 OPS in 39 games this year.

Shin-Soo Choo is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.

He'll get a day off with left-hander Jon Niese on the hill for New York. Derrick Robinson will play center field and bat leadoff.

Pirates optioned RHP Jered Hughes from Triple-A Indianapolis.

He'll head back down to the minors now that Jose Contreras is back from the bereavement list. Hughes has a 4.61 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings this season and should get another shot in the Pirates' bullpen before long.

Pirates activated RHP Jose Contreras from the bereavement list.

Contreras has been away from the team since Friday. The veteran right-hander returns to a 4.50 ERA and 4/1 K/BB ratio over four innings this season.

Cubs claimed RHP Eduardo Sanchez off waivers from the Cardinals; assigned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch speculates that Sanchez was cleared from the Cardinals' 40-man roster in order to make room for Tyler Lyons. Either way, the Cubs were quick to pounce. The 24-year-old has struggled with his control, but he has a big arm and has displayed the ability to get swings-and-misses at the big league level. He could be a useful bullpen piece for Chicago.
