Speaking Monday, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said there's a "possibility" Ryan Mathews (ankle) is ready for Week 17.

Mathews has missed the Bolts' past two games. Mathews has yet to resume practicing, so we wouldn't bet big money on him being ready to go against the Chiefs. If that's the case, the Bolts will keep going with a three-man committee of Branden Oliver, Donald Brown and Ronnie Brown.

Speaking Monday, coach Bruce Arians confirmed the Cardinals are "leaning" towards starting Logan Thomas against the 49ers.

Drew Stanton (knee) isn't ready and Ryan Lindley has looked completely overwhelmed, so Arians doesn't have much of a choice as the Cards jockey for playoff seeding. Arians did say Thomas would have to practice well to earn the nod, and that he'd be on a short leash on Sunday. Stanton is hardly a capable NFL quarterback, but the Cards will be one-and-done in the playoffs if he isn't ready to go.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Jets are expected to hire ex-Texans GM Charley Casserly as a consultant "in the event the organization decides to make any changes."

We already knew coach Rex Ryan was as good as gone, but Casserly's addition would suggest GM John Idzik is on the way out, as well. Per Schefter, both Ryan and Idzik's jobs are "very much in jeopardy." We should know their fate by this time next week.

The Arizona Republic reports Logan Thomas is expected to be the Cardinals' Week 17 starter at quarterback.

Report Kent Somers' report comes from an "informed" Cardinals source. "The best kind," in Somers' words. Ryan Lindley was an unmitigated disaster in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, so the news doesn't exactly qualify as a surprise. Drew Stanton (knee) is supposedly healing quicker than expected, but isn't considered likely to be ready for this week's finale. It's doubtful Thomas will be much better than Lindley, but the Cardinals owe it to themselves to find out. Lindley didn't look like he belonged on an NFL football field against the Seahawks.
Dec 22 - 1:55 PM

Seahawks LT Russell Okung (chest) is expected to resume practicing this week.

That would put Okung on track to suit up for Sunday's finale against the Rams, but the Seahawks won't take any chances with his health even as they fight for the NFC's No. 1 seed. Alvin Bailey filled in against the Cardinals, holding his own.
Dec 22 - 1:45 PM

The Dolphins will retain Dennis Hickey for 2015.

It's not a surprise, as owner Stephen Ross has already said that coach Joe Philbin will be back, and Hickey had a solid first year on the job. We don't understand Ross so quickly and publicly committing to Philbin, but Hickey's vote of confidence was earned.
Dec 22 - 1:21 PM

Dwayne Bowe sprained his shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.

Bowe was never announced with an injury on Sunday, and played 52-of-66 snaps. It's likely a day-to-day type ailment, one he'll probably play through in this week's climatic showdown with the Chargers.
Dec 22 - 1:17 PM

Bills released WR Mike Williams from injured reserve.

Williams is free to sign with any team, as he already passed through waivers unclaimed when he was waived/injured earlier this month. A mess off the field who has declined on it, Williams' phone isn't going to be ringing off the hook this offseason.
