Geovany Soto went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI on Friday against the Rangers.

Soto socked a solo homer in the third inning before adding an RBI single in the fourth. The 33-year-old has played well when given the opportunity this season, batting .333 (9-for-27) with two home runs, one double, and six RBI over nine games. By the way, Carlos Perez has a rough .160/.222/.180 batting line through 17 games. Soto could find himself getting more playing time.

Byung-ho Park had a rough day at the plate in Friday's loss to the Tigers, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

It has been a struggle at the dish in the early going for the Korean import, slashing just .226/.290/.532 with five homers, seven RBI and a 21/5 K/BB ratio in 69 plate appearances. The power appears to be legit, but he'll need to make more consistent contact in order to be a real factor in fantasy leagues.
Apr 29 - 11:23 PM

Victor Martinez went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBI on Friday, leading the Tigers in an 9-2 rout of the Twins in Minnesota.

Martinez delivered an RBI single and scored a run as part of a three-run rally in the first inning. He added a towering solo shot off of Casey Fien in the eighth inning to increase the club's advantage to 5-2, then doubled and scored his third run of the night in the ninth inning. He was an afterthought in most fantasy drafts this spring, but has turned back the clock in the early going, slashing .319/.388/.625 with five home runs and 17 RBI.

Michael Fulmer defeated the Twins in his Major League debut on Friday, allowing two runs on seven hits over his five innings of work.

The 23-year-old right-hander struck out four and walked one in the ballgame. He cruised through the first three innings unscathed, but allowed the Twins to scratch out single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. He definitely held his own in place of the injured Shane Greene though and could secure a rotation spot for the remainder of the season if he continues to pitch well, making him an interesting target in deeper mixed leagues. He'll take on the Indians his next time out in Cleveland on Thursday.
Apr 29 - 11:20 PM

Phil Hughes struggled in a losing effort against the Tigers on Friday, surrendering four runs on seven hits over his five frames.

The veteran right-hander walked two and struck out two on the night. The Tigers jumped on him early in this one, pushing three runs across in the top half of the first inning. Hughes' nemesis Miguel Cabrera then added a solo shot in the fifth inning to complete the damage against him. He'll carry a 1-4 record, 4.45 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into Wednesday's start against the Astros in Houston.
Apr 29 - 11:20 PM

Joe Panik suffered a minor groin injury while running out of the batter's box in the ninth inning on Friday.

While it doesn't sound like anything serious, Panik indicated he will wait and see how he feels in the morning before determining his availability for Saturday's game against the Mets. The Giants may opt to simply play things safe and rest him on Saturday.
Apr 29 - 11:18 PM

Ryan Howard socked a walk-off solo homer in a 4-3 win over the Indians in 11 innings on Friday

The clubs were locked in a 3-3 tie after five innings and Howard finally broke through when he took Cody Allen deep to lead off the bottom of the 11th. It was his sixth career walk-off homer and his first since 2013. Howard went 3-for-5 with two runs scored on the night, boosting his batting average from .185 to .214. The Phillies have now won seven out of eight and sit at a surprising 13-10 on the year.
Apr 29 - 10:58 PM

David Wright is scheduled to receive a day of rest on Saturday against the Giants.

The Mets will continue to give their oft-injured third baseman regular rest this season in an effort to keep him healthy and on the field for the majority of the season. Expect to see Wilmer Flores in the lineup at the hot corner on Saturday.
