Wilmer Flores crushed his 11th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Padres on Wednesday.

His solo shot pulled the Mets to within three runs at 6-3 in the eighth inning, but that would be the extent of their offense in the ballgame. Flores finished the night 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now slashing .283/.316/.489 with 11 long balls and 30 RBI on the year.

Steven Matz had another rough outing in Wednesday's loss to the Padres, allowing six runs on nine hits over his three innings of work.

Matz struck out four and didn't walk a batter in the ballgame. The Padres jumped on him from the get-go, as Manuel Margot crushed a two-run homer before an out had been recorded in the first inning. Matz will carry a disappointing 5.51 ERA and 1.50 WHIP into a brutal matchup against the Rockies in Colorado on Tuesday.

Whit Merrifield went 3-for-7 with two runs scored and an RBI versus the Tigers on Wednesday.

He joined in the fun as the Royals laced 22 hits and scored 16 runs. All three of his hits were singles. He has a .294 batting average with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 352 plate appearances. He has stolen 16 bases and been caught only twice, including once today.
Jul 27 - 1:12 AM

Eric Hosmer went 5-for-6 with a grand slam, five runs, six RBI and a stolen base as his team crushed the Tigers on Wednesday.

He blasted a grand slam off reliever Warwick Saupold in the Royals' nine-run seventh inning outburst. Hosmer singled four times in the ballgame, two of which drove in runs. He scored every time he reached base. The monster evening boosted his triple slash to .319/.375/.501 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI on the season.
Jul 27 - 1:07 AM

Ian Kennedy took home an easy win by allowing one run in six innings during a 16-2 smoking of the Tigers on Wednesday.

The game was actually pretty close while Kennedy was pitching. He left with a 4-1 lead then watched from the dugout as his teammates turned the game into a laugher in the late innings. Kennedy allowed just three base hits and two walks while striking out four in the contest. He improves to 4-6 with a 4.43 ERA in 19 starts.

Andrew Romine went 2-for-2 and scored a run as his team got blown out by the Royals on Wednesday.

He didn't start the game but came on to pinch-hit for Miguel Cabrera in the seventh inning with the score already 13-1. He reached on an infield single in that at-bat and later scored on a double-play ball hit by Alex Avila. Romine singled again in the ninth inning but was left stranded. The utility infielder has gotten quite a bit of playing time for a backup, slashing .228/.293/.355 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 33 runs in 217 plate appearances.
Jul 27 - 12:56 AM

Anibal Sanchez surrendered four runs in 3 2/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

He got hit with the loss even though there were 12 runs given up by other Tiger pitchers in the ballgame. He allowed nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters in the brief outing. It was just one of those nights where hits were falling in left and right no matter how hard or soft the Royals hit the ball. Sanchez falls to 2-1 with a 6.18 ERA in 59 2/3 innings spread across seven starts and 11 relief appearances. He has 56 strikeouts against just 18 walks but it is the 13 homers that have ruined his season.
Jul 27 - 12:49 AM

Carlos Carrasco let in two runs over 6 1/3 innings and did not get a decision as his team beat the Angels 10-4 on Wednesday.

Carrasco pitched well all evening but was relieved before the Indians erupted for seven runs in the eighth inning. He struck out five batters without issuing a base-on-balls in the contest. He gave up six hits, including a solo homer by first baseman Luis Valbuena in the seventh inning. Carrasco's record holds at 10-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 20 starts. He has an elite 135/31 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 123 1/3 innings.
