Rangers purchased the contract of OF Ryan Strausborger from Triple-A Round Rock.
Strausborger is batting .278/.329/.438 with 10 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 86 games this season at the Triple-A level. He has the kind of dynamic skillset that is attractive to fantasy baseballers, but the 27-year-old outfielder probably won't play very much in Texas.
Rangers optioned OF Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.
Martin has batted just .220/.265/.314 in 309 plate appearances this season for the Rangers, who will hope that a short demotion to the minors gets him going like it did for second baseman Rougned Odor. Delino DeShields Jr. has been serving as Texas' starting center fielder.
Jon Lester will make his next start Friday at home against the Giants.
Lester only pitched 1 2/3 innings of Monday's postponed game against the Pirates, so he'll move up a day in the rotation. Kyle Hendricks will start Saturday.
Cubs activated LHP Tsuyoshi Wada from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.
Wada is recovered from the shoulder problems he began experiencing in late June, but there's no longer a spot for him in the Cubs' starting rotation. The 34-year-old left-hander owns a cool 3.73 ERA, 1.277 WHIP, and 31/11 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings (seven starts) this season with Chicago. He should get another look if there's an injury on the north side.
Mariners recalled RHP Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma.
Guaipe will slide into a mid-relief role. He's allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings this season with Seattle.
Kyle Schwarber is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.
David Ross will catch Jake Arrieta and bat seventh Tuesday against Pirates left-hander J.A. Happ.
Stephen Strasburg (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday before a decision is made about where his next start will be.
It figures that he's going to be cleared to return to the Nationals' rotation over the weekend, but there's nothing official yet. Strasburg was sharp in his last rehab outing Monday at Triple-A Syracuse, striking out 11 batters over 5 2/3 innings. He has been on the disabled list since the first week of July with an oblique strain.
Athletics optioned INF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville.
Muncy gets the boot to clear a roster spot for Danny Valencia, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Monday. Muncy, 24, has batted just .207/.275/.378 in 91 plate appearances this season for Toronto.
