Phil Hughes was tagged for six runs in two innings by the Astros on Wednesday.

Hughes is 1-5 with a 5.85 ERA. Things don't seem hopeless here -- his 22/8 K/BB ratio and four homers allowed in 32 1/3 innings aren't so bad -- but with Minnesota's defense downgraded and the team simply looking like a trainwreck overall, his fantasy upside seems pretty well shot.

Astros recalled OF Jake Marisnick from Triple-A Fresno.

Marisnick saw 10 at-bats in April, but the Astros optioned him to Triple-A at the end of the month after he managed just one hit (and six strikeouts) in his limited action. Still just 25, Marisnick slashed .236/.281/.383 with nine homers, 36 RBI and 24 steals across 339 at-bats last season. He won't see regular playing time, but if he can carve out a niche for himself, he at least makes for a speed option off the bench for fantasy owners in chasm-deep AL-only leagues.
May 5 - 12:09 AM

Jose Altuve went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI versus the Twins on Wednesday.

That's eight homers in 106 at-bats for Altuve. In 2014, he had seven homers in 660 at-bats. He currently has five more extra-base hits (21) than he does strikeouts (16).
May 5 - 12:08 AM

Jason Castro went 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBI and two walks versus the Twins on Wednesday.

Castro was hitting .175/.299/.263 with no homers through Monday's action. Now he has two homers in two days, and he's upped his RBI total from two to seven.

Astros optioned RHP Michael Feliz to Triple-A Fresno.

Jake Marisnick will take Feliz's roster spot. The 22-year-old right-hander struggled in his first three appearances, surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) over 7 1/3 innings Feliz actually pitched well in his last appearance, tossing two scoreless innings during Wednesday's romp over the Twins. He figures to earn future appearances this season if he can hold his own in the minors.
May 5 - 12:04 AM

John Ryan Murphy went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Wednesday, leaving him 3-for-40 on the season.

At least the Twins pitchers had been performing much better with Murphy catching than with Kurt Suzuki behind the plate, well, at least until they gave up 16 runs in this one. The Twins might opt to send down Murphy to give him a chance to sort through his offensive struggles in the minors.
May 5 - 12:03 AM

Stephen Piscotty went 3-for-5 with two RBI as the Cardinals came back to beat the Phillies 5-4 on Wednesday.

Piscotty delivered a game-tying infield single in the bottom of the ninth, and Matt Holliday followed with the game-winner one batter later. Piscotty is batting .303 with four homers, seven doubles, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored through 27 games. He could well end up being one of this year's biggest bargains in the outfield.

Mike Leake was lifted after allowing four runs in five innings Wednesday against the Phillies.

Leake had a very good spring, but he's opened the regular season by giving up four or five runs in six straight outings. We wouldn't go dropping him in mixed leagues -- he's just in such a good situation in St. Louis -- but it'd be great to see some improvement from him next time out against the Angels.
