Bills RB Karlos Williams (undisclosed operation) took place in individual drills on Friday.

The fifth-round rookie continues to trend in the right direction for next Sunday's opener. With Fred Jackson out of the picture, Williams could be returning as the Bills' No. 2 back, and perhaps even starter with LeSean McCoy nursing a hamstring injury. He's not a bad stash at the end of benches.

49ers released S Craig Dahl.

Dahl is a 30-year-old special teamer and backup safety.

LeSean McCoy (hamstring) returned to individual drills at Bills practice on Friday.

While he hasn't yet progressed to team drills, this is a positive sign for McCoy's Week 1 availability. We'll monitor his participation throughout next week. Karlos Williams (abdomen) also returned to individual drills on Friday and would be in the mix for carries if McCoy couldn't play against the Colts.

CBS 4 Denver's Vic Lombardi reports the Broncos are discussing a Montee Ball trade with the Cowboys.

Ball had a highly unimpressive preseason in Denver's zone-rushing attack, but the Cowboys have long been high on his ability and could put him into a rotation with underwhelming Joseph Randle, and injury-prone Darren McFadden. We suspect Ball wouldn't cost more than a seventh-round pick. 24 years old, Ball has a 4.2 yards per carry average with 29 catches through two NFL seasons.

Texans third-string QB Tom Savage suffered a "severe" right shoulder sprain in Thursday night's preseason finale.

It's actually good news because the initial fears were Savage might have broken his collarbone or separated his throwing shoulder. Savage is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks. He's behind Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett in Houston.

Bills coach Rex Ryan remains cautiously optimistic that LeSean McCoy (ankle) will be ready for next Sunday's opener.

"I'm hoping that he’ll be available to us," Ryan said. The ol' ball coach also shot down reports that Shady is dealing with a tear. "Apparently, that person knows more than I do." McCoy's status is far from clear, but the tea leaves suggest he'll be ready to go against Indy. If not, Week 2 would be realistic.

Bills waived OG Cyril Richardson, RB Bronson Hill, RB Cierre Wood, OL William Campbell, DT Andre Fluellen, OL Alex Kupper, DE B.J. Larsen, CB Merrill Noel and WR Tobais Palmer.

The No. 153 overall pick of last year's draft, Richardson struggled when pressed into duty as a rookie, and didn't take a step forward this summer. His draft pedigree will likely land him on the practice squad, but his NFL career is trending in the wrong direction.
Sep 4 - 2:01 PM

Bills placed LCB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) on the reserve/NFI list.

McKelvin is expected to be ready before Week 7, so he should return when first eligible. McKelvin fractured his ankle last November, and had a setback early in the summer. Second-rounder Ronald Darby is holding down the fort opposite Stephon Gilmore in McKelvin's absence.
