Rays manager Kevin Cash said Sunday that he plans to play the recently promoted Joey Butler "a lot."

Butler will play regularly versus lefties while Desmond Jennings (knee) is out but is also expected to see some starts against righties, as well. He's in the designated hitter spot and hitting fifth on Sunday. The 29-year-old is worth a flier in AL-only leagues.

Tyler Lyons will be recalled to start on Tuesday versus the Cubs.

Tim Cooney flopped in his chance at the No. 5 starter spot last week, so now Lyons will get a chance. The southpaw was off to a great start at Memphis, posting a 2.91 ERA and 26/6 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings. He could receive 2-3 starts while Marco Gonzales (pectoral) works his way back.

Cardinals recalled RHP Sam Tuivailala from Triple-A Memphis.

Tuivailala earned the promotion after allowing just one unearned run with 12 strikeouts over nine frames at Memphis, although he also walked six. He has the upside to be a late-inning relief arm, but the Cards figure to use him in the middle of games for now.
May 3 - 1:01 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 30, with right biceps inflammation.

Walden had complained of stiffness in his shoulder, but it's apparently his biceps that's the concern. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined, but that it's being diagnosed as merely inflammation suggests that he's not dealing with any structural damage. Sam Tuivailala has taken Walden's spot in the bullpen.

Yasmani Grandal is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

It's merely a day of rest for Grandal. A.J. Ellis is catching Brett Anderson.
May 3 - 12:37 PM

Ryan Rua will undergo a scan on Friday to see how his injured right foot is healing.

Rua is working his way back from a broken bone in his heel and severe ankle sprain. The Rangers are hoping he's ready to as soon as late May, although he no longer has a starting job following the acquisition of Josh Hamilton.
May 3 - 12:12 PM

Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock later this week.

Hamilton's surgically-repaired shoulder is no longer an issue, but he's being worked back into playing shape. He's been training at the Rangers' spring training complex and faced live pitching Saturday for the first time. The big club expects Hamilton to join them towards the end of the month.
May 3 - 12:09 PM

Robinson Chirinos is not in the Rangers' lineup Sunday.

He's just receiving a breather. Carlos Corporan is behind the plate Sunday in Chirinos' place.
