Kendall Graveman was hammered for six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Astros.

Graveman gave up nine hits and struck out only one in another ugly start. He tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings against this same Astros team on April 14, but the 24-year-old right-hander even had some issues in that outing. Graveman now has an 8.27 ERA and 2.02 WHIP in 16 1/3 frames this season. It may be time for the A's to install Jesse Chavez as their fifth starter.
Apr 25 - 7:21 PM

Matt Harvey held the Yankees to two runs over 8 2/3 innings Saturday in the Mets' 8-2 victory.

Harvey nearly notched his second career complete game, but Mets manager Terry Collins gave him the hook after he walked Brian McCann with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Probably the right move. Harvey struck out seven and yielded just five hits, moving to 4-0 with a 3.04 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 31/3 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings. He gets the Nationals at home next.
Apr 25 - 7:11 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury left Saturday's game with hip tightness.

He went 0-for-3 before exiting in the eighth inning. The Yankees are hopeful Ellsbury won't miss any time, but if he does sit out Sunday, expect Chris Young to fill in at center field.
Apr 25 - 7:09 PM

Kevin Plawecki finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Saturday's defeat of the Yankees.

The young catcher slugged a two-run shot off CC Sabathia in the top of the fourth inning and then smacked an RBI single off reliever Esmil Rogers in the top of the eighth. Plawecki has displayed flashes of high-level potential in place of Travis d'Arnaud (hand) and should have short-term value in two-catcher fantasy leagues.
Apr 25 - 7:05 PM

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session in the next couple days.

Ryu started playing catch again a week ago and now he's ready to take another step forward. The 28-year-old could throw as early as Sunday. Scott Baker is filling in as the No. 5 starter, a role he'll relinquish when Ryu is healthy enough to return to the rotation.
Apr 25 - 7:02 PM

CC Sabathia was lit up for seven earned runs over five innings Saturday in the Yankees' loss to the Mets.

The crosstown Mets pounced on him early and often in this one, slugging three home runs and nine hits total. Sabathia is now 0-4 with a 5.96 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 22/4 K/BB ratio in 25 2/3 innings this season. Control isn't an issue, but the 34-year-old left-hander is looking very hittable these days. He gets the Red Sox on the road next.
Apr 25 - 7:01 PM

Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 8-0 win over the Nationals.

Stanton singled in the first inning, doubled and scored in the fourth inning, walked and scored in the sixth inning, and then slugged a no-doubt homer to left-center off Nats reliever Rafael Martin in the eighth. He now boasts a .946 OPS with five home runs and 16 RBI through 18 games this season.
Apr 25 - 6:57 PM

Tom Koehler delivered 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball in Saturday's defeat of the Nationals.

Koehler was fantastic, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out four. It was a nice bounceback from outing last Sunday, when he gave up seven runs in a loss to the Mets. Koehler will take a 2-2 record, 4.50 ERA, and 1.36 WHIP into his next start at home versus the Phillies.
