David Adams went 2-for-5 with two runs scored Friday against the Rays.

Adams has been a pleasant surprise as a stopgap option at third base for the Bombers, hitting .323 (10-for-31) with two homers, two doubles and three RBI in eight games. Keep running him out there in AL-only leagues, but Kevin Youkilis (back) appears on track to return from the disabled list late next week.

Curtis Granderson will miss a minimum of four weeks after suffering a fractured knuckle on his left pinkie on Friday.

Granderson sustained the injury when he was hit by a pitch during the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Rays. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who will turn back to Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch to carry the load while Granderson is sidelined.

Matt Joyce (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in his return to action Friday.

Joyce left Tuesday's game with a tight hamstring and sat out Wednesday. The 28-year-old is batting .252/.336/.488 with eight home runs, 20 RBI and an .824 OPS through 40 games this season and should continue to be a useful option in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Jeff Karstens has been shut down after feeling pain in his right shoulder during his throwing program on Friday.

Karstens was initially expected to return to the Pirates by early June, but it looks like that timetable will need to be pushed back now. It's also unclear whether he'll work as a starter or reliever once he does make his way back.

Nationals designated RHP Yunesky Maya for assignment.

The move was made to open a spot for Jeff Kobernus on the active roster. The once highly-hyped Cuban defector, the 31-year-old Maya owns a career 5.80 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 59 major league innings. He's unlikely to attract much interest from other teams.

Twins optioned OF Oswaldo Arcia to Triple-A Rochester.

Despite an 0-for-3 effort on Friday, the 22-year-old rookie made a very strong impression during his short time with the Twins. Through his first 30 games, he hit .255/.318/.449 with four homers and 14 RBI. He had struggled to find consistent at-bats in recent days though, and the Twins would likely prefer him playing on a nightly basis at the Triple-A level. Ryan Doumit should see an increase in playing time.

Roy Oswalt struggled in his rehab start for Double-A Tulsa on Friday, surrendering three runs on four hits over his five innings of work.

Oswalt walked three and struck out three in the game. He threw 44 of his 72 pitches for strikes in the game, but did serve up a pair of home runs. He's expected to need another three minor league starts before he's ready to join the Rockies rotation. He could be worth a flyer in deeper mixed leagues.

Jordan Zimmermann became the National League's first eight-game winner after allowing two runs in seven innings Friday in a 5-2 victory over the Phillies.

Zimmermann didn't have his best stuff, but still managed to keep the Phillies in check. All told, he gave up six hits while striking out one and walking none. Zimmermann has allowed more than two runs in a start just once this season and his ERA sits at a stingy 1.71 on the year. He'll look to keep it going in an interleague matchup against the Orioles next week.
