Giants RE Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) is reportedly looking at an early season return to the field.
Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that the Giants D/ST may get a key weapon back earlier than anticipated, as Pierre-Paul "expects to be able to play" early in the season. The Giants D/ST won't be an advisable start in Week 1 as they travel to Dallas, but this certainly helps the overall outlook of this fantasy defense.
Browns coach Mike Pettine said Dwayne Bowe is not in danger of being cut.
When asked if Bowe could be cut, Pettine responded with a curt, "No." Bowe played deep into the Browns' fourth preseason game, but he is owed $9.5 million guaranteed and would cost $4.5 million against the 2015 salary cap to cut. With the Browns low on wide receiver talent, there was never a real chance Bowe lost his job.
The Atlanta defense was dealt a blow as LB Brooks Reed underwent groin surgery and will miss six weeks of action.
Reed was signed as a free agent this offseason in hopes of bolstering the Atlanta defense that was dead last in the NFL in yards allowed last season. The loss of Reed hurts, but the Atlanta D/ST wasn't on the season-long fantasy radar and certainly won't be a Week 1 option when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rasheem Mostert broke out for 162 yards on 23 touches in Thursday’s preseason loss to the Jets.
He caught 93 yards worth of passes and added another 69 yards on the ground. Mostert has made a compelling case this preseason with 361 yards on 53 touches, though it’s tough to see him overtaking Kenjon Barner for the final spot at running back. He’s likely headed to the practice squad.
Bucs DE Larry English suffered a "significant" knee injury in Thursday's preseason finale.
We'd guess the situational pass rusher is headed to injured reserve in the next 48 hours. Headed into his age-29 season, English made 12 appearances for the Bucs in 2014.
Bucs OL Garrett Gilkey suffered a "significant" left knee injury in Thursday's preseason finale.
The versatile reserve is probably headed to injured reserve via the "waived/injured" route. Gilkey appeared in all 16 games a year ago, making one start.
Packers rookie QB Brett Hundley completed 16-of-23 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns in Thursday night's preseason finale.
He added 12 yards on four scrambles. Hundley's pocket composure has been better than commonly advertised in the exhibition season. He'll wrap up the preseason with a 7:1 TD-to-INT ratio and 129.6 passer rating. Always a good athlete with a hose for an arm, Hundley is looking like a promising prospect for the Packers. Hundley will still be third on the depth chart to begin the season, behind Aaron Rodgers and top backup Scott Tolzien.
Saints WR Willie Snead caught three balls for 31 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's preseason finale.
Starting opposite Brandon Coleman with Luke McCown at quarterback, Snead kicked off the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown catch, and nearly had a second score only for Ryan Griffin to miss Snead badly. Snead has been the Saints' most productive receiver this preseason, closing it out with 11 catches for 148 yards and the touchdown. He should make the final 53.
