Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

While the team could look to add a second baseman, they'll roll in the interim with a combination of Danny Espinosa and Zach Walters with Anthony Rendon sliding over to cover third base.

Manny Machado (back) has returned to the Orioles starting lineup on Saturday.

He's manning his regular position defensively and hitting seventh for the Orioles against Chris Young and the Mariners. He missed the previous four games due to pain in his lower back.
Jul 26 - 1:59 PM

Mike Zunino is not in the Mariners lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Orioles.

It's simply a day of rest for the young backstop being a day game after a night game. Jesus Sucre will draw the start in his place and hit ninth against opposing hurler Bud Norris.

Cubs recalled RHP Blake Parker from Triple-A Iowa.

He'll take the place of Neil Ramirez in the Cubs bullpen. The Cubs needed another arm that was capable of working multiple innings, and Parker fits the bill. He owns a 9.53 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 3/2 K/BB ratio over his 5 2/3 innings with the club this season.

Cubs optioned RHP Neil Ramirez to Triple-A Iowa.

In a bit of a head-scratching move, the Cubs demote their best reliever to Triple-A. They want to play things cautiously with the workload that the young right-hander shoulders this season, but the 25-year-old has been outstanding with a 0.96 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 36/10 K/BB ratio over his 28 innings of work.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Buddy Carlyle from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carlyle was sent outright to Triple-A earlier in the week, but finds himself quickly back with the Mets. The 36-year-old hurler owns a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio over seven innings with the Mets this season. He'll function in middle relief.
Jul 26 - 1:01 PM

Mets placed RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation.

Matsuzaka flew back to New York on Friday to have his ailing elbow examined, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. Buddy Carlyle will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place in the bullpen.

Giants acquired RHP Jake Peavy and cash considerations from the Red Sox for LHP Edwin Escobar and RHP Heath Hembree.

Peavy is scheduled to make his Giants debut on Sunday when he toes the slab against the Dodgers. While he struggled through his first 20 starts on the season (4.72 ERA, 1.43 WHIP), he should certainly benefit from a return to the National League West and is worth a look if available in mixed leagues.
