Shelley Smith took most of the first-team right guard reps at Dolphins practice this week.

Dallas Thomas heads to the bench after getting destroyed in both the run and pass games during Miami's first two preseason games. Smith entered camp as the starting center after Mike Pouncey got hurt. That transition didn't work, and he's back at hit more natural position. Smith is an above-average run blocker.

Bengals OC Hue Jackson said rookie RB Jeremy Hill is "worthy of playing" with the starting offense and will likely get some work with the ones in Sunday's third preseason game.

Hill has worked with the second- and third-team offenses through the first two weeks of the preseason, though Jackson said he actually thought Hill had already gotten some run with the ones. Jackson isn't concerned about Hill's ability to sync with the starters, saying he thinks "that's a little overrated -- runners run." While BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been the second back through the rotation the first two games, Hill's clearly the more talented runner. He's over his shoulder "injury." We feel comfortable projecting Hill as the 1B to Gio Bernard's 1A.

Following Thursday night's third preseason game, coach Chip Kelly noted that Chris Polk (hamstring) better be looking over his shoulder.

Polk hasn't played at all this preseason with a slightly torn hamstring. While he's been out, UDFAs Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey have been running the ball well behind LeSean McCoy. The Eagles have also added Kelly favorite Kenjon Barner to their backfield. Polk's roster spot is in danger after he opened the season as the heavy favorite for No. 2 handcuff duties to McCoy.

Vikings second-year DT Sharrif Floyd admitted he ballooned up to 330 pounds as a rookie.

Floyd weighed in at 6'3/297 at last year's Combine. He gave up eating meat this past March and is back down to 300. This could obviously be to blame for Floyd's sluggish rookie year. He didn't make much of an impact as a pass rusher or play the run that well. Now, Floyd's being counted on to start next to Linval Joseph. Some believe Floyd can be coach Mike Zimmer's next Geno Atkins.

Coach Mike Pettine said a Johnny Manziel "package" of plays is "on the table."

"We could potentially look at a two-QB system down the road," Pettine said. "Down the road" are the key words. It wouldn't be in the best interest of Brian Hoyer if Manziel gets his own package right out of the gate in Week 1, especially if the goal is to have Hoyer comfortable and not looking over his shoulder.

ESPN Dallas expects Kyle Wilber to open the season as the Cowboys' starting strong-side linebacker.

The Cowboys have a lot of moving parts at the linebacker spots. Rolando McClain is still rounding into game form and projects to fill the middle linebacker role, while Justin Durant has had a solid camp and should man the weak side. Former second-rounder Bruce Carter simply isn't making enough plays. Wilber is a former defensive end who plays solid run defense.

Rick Wagner is the Ravens' starting right tackle.

Wagner is a former high school basketball player and receiver. He went to Wisconsin as a tight end but became a tackle after he grew into the position. Wagner is obviously a plus athlete. Jah Reid and Ryan Jensen were supposed to compete with Wagner for the starting job, but didn't bring much to the table. Wagner is a question mark, but can't be any worse than Michael Oher.

Packers TE Brandon Bostick (leg) has been diagnosed with "slight fibula fracture," and could return as early as Week 2.

However, Bostick could "be out even longer." He suffered the injury in last Saturday's preseason game. Rookie Richard Rodgers will begin the season as the Packers' "move" tight end, but Bostick could supplant him upon his return.
