Indians recalled LHP Ryan Merritt from Triple-A Columbus.

Merritt will make a spot start for the Indians in the second game of Thursday's day-night doubleheader at Minnesota's Target Field. The left-hander allowed seven hits and three runs over just four innings in his only other start at the MLB level this season.

Twins recalled RHP Aaron Slegers from Triple-A Rochester.

Slegers will make a spot start for the Twins in the second half of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians. The 24-year-old right-hander was 13-4 with a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 97/27 K/BB ratio through 130 1/3 innings (21 starts) this season at the Triple-A level.

Zack Cozart is not in the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs.

This appears to be a routine breather for Cozart, who slugged a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss at Wrigley Field. Jose Peraza will start at shortstop and bat second Thursday versus Cubs left-hander Jon Lester.

Diamondbacks activated OF David Peralta from the paternity leave list.

Peralta is starting in right field and batting leadoff on Thursday afternoon against the Astros after missing a couple of games following the birth of his daughter. The 30-year-old outfielder is slashing .303/.359/.470 in 383 at-bats this season.

Twins activated LHP Glen Perkins from the 60-day disabled list.

Perkins will finally make his return to the Minnesota bullpen on Thursday, despite posting a 6.14 ERA in eight rehab appearances between the Gulf Coast League, High-A Fort Myers, and Double-A Chattanooga. The veteran left-hander has been sidelined by shoulder problems since April 2016. He'll probably operate in a lower-leverage role down the stretch.
Aug 17 - 10:59 AM

Twins placed LHP Dietrich Enns on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain.

Enns was lined up to start Saturday against the Diamondbacks, but that obviously won't happen now. The 26-year-old left-hander has allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and one walk over four innings this season with Minnesota.
Aug 17 - 10:57 AM

Rangers released RHP Jaye Chapman.

Chapman posted an ugly 6.63 ERA and 1.72 WHIP over 36 2/3 innings this summer in the Rangers' minor league system. The 30-year-old right-hander hasn't made an appearance in a major league game since back in 2012.
Aug 17 - 9:27 AM

Seung Hwan Oh worked a scoreless seventh inning Wednesday night against the Red Sox.

Oh needed just 10 total pitches to retire Jackie Bradley, Eduardo Nunez, and Mookie Betts. The South Korean right-hander boasts a 0.82 ERA and 13/0 K/BB ratio over his last 12 appearances and could take back over as the Cardinals' primary closer if Trevor Rosenthal (arm) lands on the disabled list. Tyler Lyons and John Brebbia might also enter the ninth-inning mix.
