Javier Baez (elbow) said during an appearance on 670 The Score that he'll probably get the night off Monday.

Baez exited Sunday's game after he was hit in the left elbow by a pitch, but he didn't require X-rays and said Monday that he was doing "good." Still, the Cubs appear likely to play things safe and give him the night off. Either way, it looks like a minor concern.

Diamondbacks prospect catcher Daulton Varsho has suffered a fractured hamate bone in his hand.

The team has yet to announce what the next step might, but surgery is obviously a possibility here. Varsho, 21, is batting .290/.377/.467 with eight homers and 15 steals over 57 games this season with High-A Visalia. He'll have more value if he sticks behind the plate, but the power/speed combo makes him an interesting name to follow in fantasy leagues.

Kevin Kiermaier (thumb) is on track to be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Kiermaier is 7-for-17 (.412) with a triple and a double through five rehab games between High-A Charlotte and Triple-A Columbus as he makes his way back from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. The 28-year-old was batting just .163/.250/.233 over his first 12 games prior to the injury, but he was very productive when healthy last year and is worth scooping up in mixed fantasy leagues if he was dropped.

Melky Cabrera elected free agency.

Cabrera chose free agency over an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus. Cabrera, 33, batted just .207/.242/.293 with zero home runs through 66 plate appearances during his time with the Indians. He'll try to find a new opportunity elsewhere.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets are ready to listen to trade offers for "virtually everyone" on their roster.

Rosenthal notes that the Mets would understandably prefer to keep their young, controllable talent, but he also adds that the club is more open to moving Noah Syndergaard (under team control through 2021) than staff ace Jacob deGrom (under team control through 2020). Obviously it would take a huge haul for them to part with either pitcher, but they are keeping an open mind. Probably the most realistic name to be moved is closer Jeurys Familia, who is due to become a free agent following the season. Asdrubal Cabrera also makes sense as a possible trade chip for New York.

Mariners optioned RHP Rob Whalen to Triple-A Tacoma.

Juan Nicasio has been activated from the disabled list in a corresponding roster move. Whalen was just called up late last week and allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings during his lone appearance. He should get another shot down the line.

Mariners optioned C David Freitas to Triple-A Tacoma.

Chris Herrmann will take his spot as Mike Zunino's backup. Freitas is batting .217/.299/.283 with four doubles and three RBI over 23 games with the big club this season.

Mariners activated C/INF/OF Chris Herrmann from the 10-day disabled list.

Herrmann went 2-for-12 (.167) with a double over five games during a rehab stint with Triple-A Tacoma. The 30-year-old appeared in just one game with the Mariners in late May before going down with a right rib cage strain. David Freitas was sent down in a corresponding roster move, so Herrmann will serve as Mike Zunino's backup.
