Matt Cain (forearm) will return to the Giants' starting rotation on Thursday against the Nationals.
Cain had been lined up to make his 2015 regular-season debut on Friday, but the Giants need him to step up and take Tim Lincecum's spot. Lincecum is headed to the disabled list with a forearm bruise. Cain has been decent on his lengthy minor league rehab assignment and is worth a shot in most mixed fantasy leagues.
Tim Lincecum (forearm) will be placed on the disabled list Thursday.
Lincecum suffered a right forearm contusion in his start Saturday against the Rockies. It's not a serious injury, but the Giants need a spot for Matt Cain anyway.
Scott Feldman (knee) could begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday.
He'll first have to make it through another bullpen session later this week. Feldman has been on the disabled list since May 27 with a torn meniscus in his right knee. Look for him to return after the All-Star break.
Jake Marisnick (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Fresno.
Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle suspects that Marisnick will be cleared to rejoin the Astros' active roster next Monday in Cleveland. The 24-year-old outfielder has been on the shelf since June 19 with a strained hamstring. He boasts five homers and 11 stolen bases in 62 games this season.
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Matt Stites from Triple-A Reno.
Stites has a 3.00 ERA in nine appearances this season at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old right-hander will pitch in low-leverage situations for the Diamondbacks.
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Allen Webster to Triple-A Reno.
Webster allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings on Monday night, watching his season ERA rise to 7.11. Matt Stites was called up Tuesday in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
Jaime Garcia (groin) did not throw a bullpen session on Monday.
And he also had to skip a side session Saturday due to ongoing cramping in his left groin. It's not clear whether Garcia will be able to start Thursday against the White Sox. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny expects to have some kind of answer on that by Wednesday afternoon.
Hanley Ramirez (hand) is scheduled to take batting practice before Tuesday's game in Toronto.
Hanley won't be in Boston's starting lineup, but he appears to be progressing nicely from his bruised left hand. Rusney Castillo is with the Red Sox in Toronto as insurance, but it doesn't sound like he'll be needed. Hanley should return either Wednesday or Thursday.
