Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that trade talks between the Mets and Reds involving Jay Bruce "may have lost momentum."

It had been looking like earlier Friday that the deal was close to the finish line, but Crasnick is saying the Reds are "having second thoughts about the Mets' trade package." It's unclear at this point how likely it is that talks will pick back up. The Mets are looking at other outfielders in addition to Bruce.

Brewers acquired RHP Zach Davies from the Orioles for OF Gerardo Parra.

The 22-year-old Davies has taken a step forward this season, amassing a 2.84 ERA and an 81/33 K/BB ratio in 101 1/3 innings in Triple-A. He's not viewed as having a ton of upside, but if he makes it as a fourth starter -- which is a definite possibility -- that seems like a great return for two months of Parra. The Brewers will likely send him to Triple-A for now, but he could make his major league debut before the year is out.
Jul 31 - 12:48 PM

Orioles designated RHP Bud Norris for assignment.

Norris lost his rotation spot earlier this month and holds a 7.06 ERA on the season. The Orioles should be able to find a trade partner for him, although they'll surely have to eat some of his $8.8 million salary.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that talks between the Yankees and Padres regarding Craig Kimbrel "broke down" on Thursday.

ESPN's Buster Olney adds that the two sides haven't had any talks on Friday, so it appears that ship might have sailed. The Yankees are still in the market for a reliever, though, with Carter Capps and possibly Aroldis Chapman piquing their interest.

Rangers acquired LHP Cole Hamels, LHP Jake Diekman and cash from the Phillies for C Jorge Alfaro, RHP Jake Thompson, OF Nick Williams, RHP Alec Asher, LHP Matt Harrison and RHP Jerad Eickhoff.

The Rangers have themselves a co-ace with Yu Darvish to put in front of their 2016 rotation, and since the Phillies ate $9.5 million of the $82 million he's still owed and took back Harrison's $33 million, he won't break the budget. Of course, they had to give up three top prospects to get him, but since they managed to hold on to their two best in Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara, it's hard to blame them for making the deal. They'd still seem to be long shots to reach the postseason this year, but this can't hurt their chances. Hamels loses some fantasy value with the deal, since he's going to the tougher league and a hitter's park, but at least he's looking at getting run support for the first time in years.
Jul 31 - 12:31 PM

Brewers acquired OF Malik Collymore from the Cardinals in exchange for RHP Jonathan Broxton and cash considerations.

Collymore entered the season ranked 27th by Baseball America among the Cards' prospects, but he's hit only .216/.326/.378 in rookie ball while making a move from second base to the outfield. He does have some athleticism, so there's some lottery ticket potential here.
Jul 31 - 12:30 PM

David Price is expected to make his Blue Jays debut on Monday versus the Twins.

The Jays were considering having him start Sunday, but they've decided to keep R.A. Dickey on turn. Price was acquired from the Tigers on Thursday in exchange for Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt and Matt Boyd.
Jul 31 - 12:28 PM

Left-hander Jake Diekman was traded from the Phillies to the Rangers in an eight-player deal.

Diekman has had a rough year, with his always shaky control going from bad to worse. Still, he has one of the best arms of any left-handed reliever in the game, which explains how he's struck out 225 batters in 173 1/3 innings as a major leaguer. The Rangers will ask for less and potentially get more out of him than the Phillies did. Plus, he's under control through 2018.
