Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Omaha.

Jul 26 - 8:27 AM

Nationals activated LHP Sammy Solis from the 15-day disabled list.

Solis, out since July 7 with right knee inflammation, was cleared to return after making two appearances on a minor league rehab assignment. He returns to a 2.43 ERA and 34/16 K/BB ratio in 29 2/3 innings.
Jul 26 - 8:23 AM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays have agreed to acquire outfielder Melvin Upton from the Padres.

The Padres are expected to receive a Class A prospect in return. No word yet on the financial details, but the deal is expected to be finalized on Tuesday. Upton is batting .256/.304/.439 with 16 home runs, 45 RBI, and 20 steals across 95 games this season and should add some versatility to Toronto's outfield. The addition could allow Jose Bautista to see more time out of the designated hitter spot and Edwin Encarnacion to play more first base. Upton is still under contract (for $16.45 million) next season, which is notable with Jose Bautista and Michael Saunders due to hit free agency this winter. The Padres are expected to pick up some of the tab.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jay Bruce hit a pair of two-run homers off Jake Peavy to lead the Reds to a 7-5 win over the Giants on Monday.

One last hurrah for Bruce in a Reds uniform? It was his third two-homer game of the season, the others coming on April 7 and May 18. He's tied with teammate Adam Duvall for fifth place in the NL with 23 homers.
Jul 26 - 1:58 AM

Raisel Iglesias pitched two perfect innings out of the pen for his fourth hold Monday against the Giants.

Iglesias has been the Reds' best reliever since coming off the disabled list, but the team has continued to use him as a multi-inning guy, suggesting that he won't soon be a threat for saves. He's allowed just one run in 20 1/3 innings over his 10 appearances as a reliever.
Jul 26 - 1:56 AM

Jake Peavy gave up three homers and six runs over five-plus innings Monday in a loss to the Reds.

Peavy had a great run in late May and June, but he's given up 20 runs -- 17 earned -- over 25 1/3 innings in his last five starts. His rotation spot could again come into jeopardy if he's not better next time out.
Jul 26 - 1:55 AM

Eugenio Suarez had a two-run homer and a double Monday against the Giants.

It's disappointing that Suarez's OBP has been hanging right around .300 for much of the year, but he's up to 17 homers now. It's too bad those homers have come with just seven doubles and a 100/27 K/BB ratio in 345 at-bats.
Jul 26 - 1:53 AM

Brandon Belt went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer as the Giants' No. 6 hitter on Monday.

Manager Bruce Bochy has been shifting hot and cold hands up and down his lineup all year long, and Belt was dropped tonight as a result of his poor July. He won't stay in the sixth spot for long if he's over his slump.
