Jordan Zimmermann spun eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Blue Jays in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Zimmermann ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh by loading the bases, but he was able to induce a key double play grounder to get out of the jam. Otherwise, he cruised, scattering six hits to go with one walk and four strikeouts. Zimmermann has allowed just six runs combined over his last six starts, lowering his ERA from 4.88 to 2.88 in the process. He lines up for a start against the Cubs this weekend.

R.A. Dickey allowed two runs over seven innings and took the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Both runs scored in the fifth inning. Dickey gave up eight hits and walked one while striking out six batters, so he did fine, but Jordan Zimmermann was a little bit better. This was his first quality start since May 4. He'll bring a 5.53 ERA into a start against the Astros this weekend at home.

Drew Storen tossed a perfect ninth inning Tuesday against the Blue Jays for his NL-leading 17th save of the season.

The Nationals were rained out Monday and carried a three-game losing streak into Tuesday's action, so this was his first appearance since last Wednesday. Storen has been sensational so far this season, putting up a 0.81 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 28/3 K/BB ratio in 22 1/3 innings.

Bryce Harper had an RBI single, a walk, and a stolen base Tuesday as the Nationals took the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Harper appeared uncomfortable against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in his first two at-bats, but he managed to break through with a single in the fifth to put the Nationals on the board. The stolen base was his third of the season. Harper leads the NL with 18 home runs and is tied with Miami's Giancarlo Stanton for the RBI lead at 44.

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Escobar hit leadoff Tuesday with Denard Span (knee) sidelined. We keep waiting for the 32-year-old to come back down to Earth, but he's showing no signs of slowing down yet. With a .319/.378/.396 batting line over 47 games, he's been a nice surprise for Washington.
Jun 2 - 3:39 PM

Chris Colabello had a single in four at-bats in a losing effort in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Colabello has now hit safely in 12 straight games. He's provided a huge boost to Toronto's battered outfield, posting a .364/.411/.556 batting line with four home runs and 14 RBI over 26 games, but we're very skeptical it's going to last.
Jun 2 - 3:38 PM

Tigers recalled OF Daniel Fields from Triple-A Toledo.

Fields will be with the team for a couple of days while Rajai Davis is away on paternity leave. The 24-year-old was batting .271/.394/.486 with three home runs, 21 RBI, and nine stolen bases over 48 games this season in Triple-A.
Jun 2 - 3:26 PM

Tigers placed OF Rajai Davis on the paternity leave list.

Davis left the team to be present for the birth of his second child. He's permitted to be away from the team for 24 to 72 hours.
