Tommy Joseph is not in the Phillies starting lineup on Saturday.

He's inexplicably on the pine while the slumping Ryan Howard starts at first base and hits cleanup. Joseph is hitting .290/.294/.516 with two homers and four RBI in his first 31 at-bats.

Ryan Hanigan (neck, illness) is available off of the bench on Saturday.

The veteran backstop was unavailable on Friday due to a neck issue and an illness that he has been battling.

Blake Swihart is not in the Red Sox starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Blue Jays.

Swihart has been a fixture in left field since his recall from Triple-A, but he'll get a breather on Saturday. Chris Young will start in his place and bat eighth.

The Braves plan to re-evaluate Erick Aybar (foot) on Saturday.

Aybar was forced to leave Friday's game after he was hit in the foot by a pitch. While X-rays came back negative, the Braves will ensure that he's ready to go before returning to the lineup. Expect to see Daniel Castro at shortstop on Saturday.

Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels plan to designate Brendan Ryan for assignment on Saturday.

The veteran infielder has been with the club as a reserve infielder, but offers little in the way of offense and isn't a part of the team's future plans.

Christian Friedrich blanked the Diamondbacks for seven innings on Friday to win as a starter for the first time since July 2012.

Friedrich made 16 starts for the Rockies as a rookie in 2012 and three more in 2014 (he missed all of 2013) before shifting to the pen. The Padres picked him off the scrap heap over the winter and decided to try him again as a starter. Lo and behold, it's worked, with the left-hander amassing a 1.65 ERA in his first three starts. We still don't trust him for fantasy purposes. For one thing, he's walked 10 in 16 1/3 innings.
May 28 - 1:31 AM

Robbie Ray allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Padres.

The Diamondbacks need Ray to step it up with Shelby Miller and Rubby De La Rosa absent, but here he is 2-4 with a 4.67 ERA. Quite a bit more was expected from him going into the season. He's still fine to own in NL-only leagues, but he's not really even a streaming option in mixed leagues right now.
May 28 - 1:28 AM

Yangervis Solarte hit a pair of homers to knock in four runs against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

It's the second two-homer game of Solarte's career. The switch-hitter was batting cleanup tonight in his sixth game back from the disabled list. Still, it's probably not enough to make him of use in the typical mixed league.
