Indians placed 2B Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 2, with right shoulder soreness.
Angels recalled RHP Cam Bedrosian from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Bedrosian has big stuff but has struggled in his time in the majors this season, posting a 4.60 ERA with 10 walks over 15 2/3 innings. He'll work in middle relief.
Angels optioned RHP Drew Rucinski to Triple-A Salt Lake.
He gets the boot after allowing two runs in just one-third of an inning in his lone relief appearance. Cam Bedrosian is taking Rucinski's spot in the bullpen.
Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Monday.
It's a rare day off for the slugger. C.J. Cron is at first base in Pujols' place, while David Murphy is in the designated hitter spot.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Kyle Lohse will remain in the club's rotation "as of now."
Counsell said Sunday that the organization would discuss Lohse's status and apparently they've decided to leave him in the starting five for the time being. "Kyle’s still in the rotation," Counsell said. "Kyle’s pitching Friday night as of now." Lohse holds an ugly 6.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP on the season and is on thin ice, to say the least.
Robinson Chirinos received a cortisone injection in his ailing left shoulder Monday.
Chirinos was placed on the disabled list over the weekend and the hope is that the injection speeds along the healing process. For now, there's no timetable for his return.
Angel Pagan was scratched from Monday's lineup due to soreness in both knees.
Pagan had an issue with his left knee back in June and not only is it sore again but apparently his right one is, as well. "It's really evident," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. The skipper indicated that it will likely be a multi-day absence for Pagan. Gregor Blanco is in center field Monday and Nori Aoki is in the leadoff spot.
Cubs recalled OF Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa.
Szczur sports an ugly .211/.246/.316 batting line during his time in the majors this season. He'll back up at all three outfield spots.
