Wilmer Flores (back) will head back to New York for further evaluation on his injured back.

The back issue forced Flores to leave Sunday's game against the Brewers, and the fact that he's traveling back to New York could indicate that a trip to the disabled list is upcoming. The Mets begin a four-game series against the Braves in Atlanta on Monday.

Pablo Sandoval is starting at second base for the first time in his big league career on Sunday against the Cubs.

Sandoval has logged 2/3 of an inning in his career at the position, that came with the Red Sox last season. The Giants will continue to patchwork the position with Joe Panik and Alen Hanson on the shelf.
May 27 - 5:28 PM

Christian Yelich went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a win over the Mets on Sunday.

Yelich enjoyed the Mets' visit to Miller Park, going 9-for-18 in the four-game series. The three-hit afternoon Sunday got his average up above .300 again, leaving his line at .305/.371/.467 through Sunday's games. Now seemingly settled in, the 26-year-old is showing why the Brewers paid a high price to acquire him this winter, and he should only continue to get better as the year goes along.
May 27 - 5:28 PM

Felipe Vazquez was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Cardinals with left forearm discomfort.

Vazquez was put in a tough spot on Sunday, coming on with the bases loaded and the Pirates holding a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. He allowed an RBI single to Harrison Bader, walked Yadier Munoz to force in another run, allowed a third run to score on a fielder's choice, then walked Greg Garcia before departing. Vazquez was being treated and evaluated and was not available for comment after the game. If the injury forces him to miss some time, Michael Feliz would seemingly be the next man up in the ninth inning for the Pirates and could be worth a speculative add in all formats.
May 27 - 5:26 PM

Zack Wheeler allowed four runs over six innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

Jesus Aguilar was the thorn in Wheeler's side on this day -- he's been the thorn in pretty much every opposing pitcher's side lately -- delivering an RBI single in the first inning before bopping a three-run homer in the third. Otherwise, Wheeler kept the potent Brewers' bats mostly quiet, also striking out six while walking two. He's got an ugly 5.40 ERA and 1.48 WHIP that are a bit inflated by two poor starts, but Wheeler has actually been serviceable for many of his nine starts to date. That said, a date Friday with the Cubs brings no relief for the righty.
May 27 - 5:25 PM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed eight hits and five runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Mets.

Chacin didn't really get hit all that hard -- only one of the eight hits went for extra bases, a Michael Conforto double -- but a rough second inning hurt his final line. One bad inning is about the extent of the criticism of Chacin lately, as he's been largely terrific for the Brewers since the start of May. Even with Sunday's outing, the 30-year-old owns a 3.69 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 12 starts. An interleague date with the White Sox is on tap for Saturday.
May 27 - 5:21 PM

Buster Posey (hip) remains out of the Giants' starting lineup on Sunday.

It's the second straight game that Posey has missed with what the Giants are calling a minor ailment. He's still considered day-to-day. Nick Hundley will once again start behind the dish and will bat eighth for the Giants against Tyler Chatwood and the Cubs.
May 27 - 5:12 PM

Bud Norris pitched a perfect ninth inning Sunday to secure an 8-6 win and a series win over the Pirates.

Two days, two flawless saves for the right-hander, who has bounced back well after a rough outing against the Royals earlier in the week. Through 24 appearances, Norris now has a 2.49 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 34/4 K/BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings of work. He's also perfect in save chances, converting all 11 opportunities to date.
