Manny Machado will bat leadoff and play third base in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Machado was ejected from the first game of the doubleheader after slamming his bat when he was called out on strikes, but he's right back in there for the nightcap. David Lough will start in left field while Steve Clevenger is behind the plate.

Mariners prospect 3B/1B D.J. Peterson went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI on Wednesday for Double-A Jackson.

The home run was just the second of the year for Peterson, who slugged 31 in 2014 between High-A High Desert and Jackson. Even more concerning is the fact that the 23-year-old is batting just .213/.282/.305 with a 44 strikeouts through 42 games. But while it’s been a slow and disappointing start to the season for the 2013 first-round draft pick, his strong track record as a professional suggests his production will eventually pick up.

White Sox recalled RHP Chris Beck from Triple-A Charlotte.

Beck will be making his major league debut when he starts the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles. The 24-year-old had a 3.30 ERA and 33/11 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings through his first eight starts this season in Triple-A.

White Sox optioned RHP Scott Carroll to Triple-A Charlotte.

Chris Beck will replace him on the roster for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles. Carroll has posted a 3.12 ERA and 7/7 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings this season in a middle relief role.

Wei-Yin Chen will start Saturday against the Rays.

Chen recently dealt with some undisclosed soreness, but it's apparently not a major concern. The southpaw has a 3.13 ERA and 44/14 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings over his first nine start this season.
May 28 - 4:15 PM

Chris Davis hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning of Thursday afternoon's loss to the White Sox.

Davis' home run came with two outs in the ninth inning off of Zach Duke and drew the Orioles to within 3-2. It would have tied the game, but the White Sox scored an insurance run in the top of the frame -- badly needed insurance, it would turn out. Davis now has three homers in his last two games. He remains your prototypical all-or-nothing slugger, with a .217/.292/.478 batting line, 11 long balls and 28 RBI. Enjoy the recent power surge while it lasts.

Indians prospect OF Tyler Naquin had a perfect day at the plate Wednesday for Double-A Akron, going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Naquin opened the season on the disabled list as a result of a hand injury he suffered last June, and he didn’t join Akron until late April. He’s quickly making up for the lost time, though, batting .318/.408/.430 through 25 games. The 24-year-old also has nine extra-base hits—his dinger on Wednesday was his first of 2015—and five stolen bases, and he sports a solid 19/14 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the season.
May 28 - 4:11 PM

Red Sox recalled LHP Eduardo Rodriguez from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Rodriguez will be making his major league debut when he starts Thursday against the Rangers. It's just being called a spot start, designed to give Boston's other starters an extra day of rest, but Joe Kelly's rotation spot is obviously vulnerable right now. Rodriguez, 22, had a 2.98 ERA and 44/7 K/BB ratio over his first 48 1/3 innings this season in Triple-A.
