Carlos Gonzalez has been scratched from the Rockies' lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

Gonzalez was penciled in as the Rockies' No. 3 hitter for their series opener at Great American Ball Park. No word yet on the reason for his sudden absence.

Miguel Montero is not in the Cubs' lineup Tuesday.

David Ross will start behind the plate for Cubs left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada in the afternoon opener against the Nationals. It's just a day of rest for Montero.
May 25 - 11:40 AM

Kevin Gausman (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a two-inning simulated game on June 2.

Gausman first has to make it through a bullpen session Tuesday and a live batting practice session Friday. The right-hander has been on the disabled list since early May with shoulder tendinitis. It's not exactly clear what his role will be once he's deemed ready to pitch in major league games.
May 25 - 11:37 AM

Pablo Sandoval (knee) is back in the Red Sox starting lineup on Monday afternoon against the Twins.

It'll be his first start since last Tuesday. Sandoval was limited to pinch-hitting duties for six days after taking a pitch off his left knee. He'll bat fifth and play third base in his return to action Monday.
May 25 - 11:29 AM

Justin Morneau (concussion) did not accompany the Rockies on their road trip.

Colorado will play three games in Cincinnati and then three in Philadelphia before heading back home for a weekend set against the Rockies. Morneau could fly out and meet the club at some point, but there's no exact timetable. He was placed on the 7-day disabled list May 16 with a cervical strain and concussion symptoms.
May 25 - 11:26 AM

Danny Santana is getting another day off Monday.

Santana, batting just .233/.253/.320, didn't play Sunday either. His high-level rookie production always seemed like a mirage, and he's nothing more than a poor speed option at this point. Eduardo Escobar is starting at shortstop Monday afternoon against the Red Sox.
May 25 - 11:13 AM

Major League Baseball suspended Brian Matusz eight games for having a foreign substance on his arm.

Matusz was caught using a sticky grip-enhancer Saturday night during an appearance against the Marlins, and an eight-game suspension is the going rate for such a crime. The left-hander has appealed and will be available out of the Orioles' bullpen until that appeal is heard.
May 25 - 11:10 AM

Carlos Beltran is out of the Yankees' starting lineup on Monday due to illness.

Beltran also sat out Sunday's series finale against the Rangers. Garrett Jones is starting in right field for the Yankees in Monday's series opener versus the Royals.
