FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that Matt Albers could return to the Nationals on another minor league contract.

Albers was released by the Nationals on Monday morning, but he is apparently going to stay in contact with the club while he looks for a major league opportunity elsewhere. The 34-year-old right-hander tossed 11 2/3 scoreless innings this spring in the Grapefruit League, after posting a 6.31 ERA in 51 1/13 frames last season with the White Sox.

Robbie Grossman (groin) went through a full workout Monday in Twins camp.

Grossman has been out of Grapefruit League action for over a week with a groin injury, but he took batting practice Sunday and added more baseball activities to his plate on Monday. The switch-hitting backup outfielder should be ready for Opening Day.

Phillies reassigned RHP Michael Mariot to minor league camp.

Mariot had a 4.15 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio in 8 2/3 innings this spring in Grapefruit League play. The right-hander will function as organizational bullpen depth for Philadelphia in 2017.
Mar 27 - 2:29 PM

Phillies optioned OF Roman Quinn to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Quinn was always ticketed for Triple-A out of spring training, but he should be brought up for good at some point in 2017. The 23-year-old outfield prospect batted .302/.372/.451 with six home runs and 36 stolen bases in 77 games last season between rookie ball and Double-A Reading. He then made his MLB debut as a September callup.

Phillies released C Ryan Hanigan.

Andrew Knapp will open the 2017 regular season as the Phillies' backup catcher. Hanigan was in camp this spring on a non-guaranteed minor league contract.
Mar 27 - 2:24 PM

Andrew Knapp has been named the Phillies' backup catcher.

Knapp beat out Ryan Hanigan and Bryan Holaday for the job. The 25-year-old batted .266/.330/.390 with eight home runs and 46 RBI in 107 games last season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Angels reassigned OF Eric Young Jr., OF Shane Robinson, RHP Jose Valdez, RHP Deolis Guerra, INF Rey Navarro, and C Tony Sanchez to minor league camp.

No big shockers among this round of cuts from Angels camp. Young put up an .882 OPS in 46 at-bats this spring in Cactus League play, but he was always a longshot for a backup outfield job. The 31-year-old is a .246/.314/.327 career hitter at the major league level.
Mar 27 - 2:16 PM

Phillies released C Bryan Holaday.

Holaday was told Monday that he would not be on the Phillies' Opening Day roster, so he exercised his opt-out clause. The 29-year-old catcher is a .245/.282/.346 career hitter in 411 plate appearances at the major league level.
