Tony Cruz finished 2-for-5 with three RBI in the Cardinals' defeat of the Brewers on Saturday.

Cruz hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning and scored Jhonny Peralta on an RBI double in the top of the third. St. Louis managed 10 runs on 12 hits in the blowout win. Cruz is expected to be the Cardinals' primary catcher with Yadier Molina (thumb) out and could carry value in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Indians transferred DH Jason Giambi from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Giambi has been out for a month with left knee inflammation. He was moved to make room for pitcher Nick Maronde, who was acquired in a trade from the Angels.

Adam Wainwright limited the Brewers to two runs over seven innings Saturday in a 10-2 Cardinals victory.

Wainwright was staked to a massive early lead and went into cruise control, walking none and fanning four. He'll finish the second half of the 2014 regular season with a fantastic 12-4 record, 1.83 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP. The Cardinals are now tied for first place in the National League Central with the Brewers, who have dropped seven straight games.

Jimmy Nelson was hammered for eight runs -- six earned -- over 4 1/3 innings Saturday by the Cardinals.

Nelson looked hittable from the start, yielding three runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, and one in the third. The Cardinals then poured on two more runs in the fifth en route to a 10-2 blowout win. Nelson has been outstanding this year at Triple-A Nashville, but he got a rude awakening at Miller Park on Saturday. The Brewers have lost seven straight games.

Indians acquired LHP Nick Maronde from the Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Maronde had a 12.79 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched for the Angels this year. They designated him for assignment on July 10.

Chris Johnson homered twice Saturday as the Braves won an 11-6 shootout against the Cubs.

Both starting pitchers were terrible on a day that the flood gates opened early and often at Wrigley Field. Johnson hit a two-run shot off Edwin Jackson in the top of the second inning and then took E-Jax deep again in the top of the fourth. He finished the afternoon with four RBI.

Arismendy Alcantara went 2-for-5 with two runs scored Saturday in the Cubs' loss to the Braves.

Alcantara doubled in the first inning and then singled in the fifth. He's now 7-for-18 (.389) at the major league level and appears ready to take over as the Cubs' starting second baseman for good. The 22-year-old is worth grabbing in all mixed fantasy leagues.
Jul 12 - 7:22 PM

Mike Minor was knocked around for six earned runs in six innings Saturday by a weak Cubs team.

Minor took a step in the right direction Monday against the Mets, allowing only two runs and two hits over seven strong innings, but his struggles returned Saturday at Wrigley Field. Chicago managed 11 hits off him -- including five doubles -- but the Atlanta offense was even better and netted him a victory. Minor has a disappointing 4.86 ERA and 1.49 WHIP on the season.
