Blaine Boyer has agreed to a contract with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Central League.

Boyer opted out of his minor league contract with the Royals over the weekend after he learned that he could get a more lucrative deal overseas. The righty hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.

Santiago Casilla will have the cyst on his right knee examined by a specialist on Wednesday.

Casilla has dealt with the cyst since last season, and a brace that he had been wearing wasn't working. He'll receive another opinion on Wednesday to see if there's another way to combat the issue.

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times speculates that Joe Blanton could lose his rotation spot when Jered Weaver returns from the disabled list.

Weaver will make what could be his final extended spring training appearance on Wednesday, which is the same day Blanton is scheduled to start. It doesn't necessarily mean Blanton is the most vulnerable, but it would hardly be a surprise if he's given the boot considering his 0-7 record, 6.62 ERA and 1.97 WHIP. Jerome Williams is the other candidate to lose his spot, but he's out-pitched Blanton by a wide margin this season.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it's possible Jered Weaver (elbow) could be activated after his appearance at extended spring training on Wednesday.

That would put him in line to rejoin the rotation early next week, which would be a little earlier than expected. Weaver is coming back from a fractured left (non-throwing) elbow and appears to be fully healed, so it's all about getting his stamina up at this point. The Los Angeles Times' Bill Shaikin speculates that he could replace Joe Blanton in the rotation.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said that Tommy Hanson would "most likely not" start on Saturday in Kansas City.

Hanson has been away from the team since early May due to the death of his step-brother. The Halos were hoping he'd be ready to rejoin the rotation on Saturday, but he needs to get some work in at extended spring training first. The right-hander seems like to return sometime next week.

Carlos Quentin is not in the Padres' lineup Tuesday after tweaking his knee during Monday's game.

Quentin missing games here and there due to his chronic knee issues has become routine. The good news is that he's expected to be back in there Wednesday. Chris Denorfia is getting the start in left field Tuesday.

Aaron Hill will have his left hand examined by a doctor next Monday.

That will be two weeks after Hill was hoping to get the go-ahead to resume baseball activities, as his fractured hand is healing much slower than expected. The original timetable had him possibly returning by late May, but he probably won't be activated until well into June now.

Rangers purchased the contract of LHP Neal Cotts from Triple-A Round Rock.

Cotts hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 but has earned a call-up with some brilliant work at Triple-A, where he's posted a 0.78 ERA and absurd 42/5 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He'll be used in middle relief.
