Carlos Martinez had to settle for a no-decision but was superb nonetheless Monday, tossing seven shutout frames in a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Martinez surrendered just five hits -- all singles -- while walking two and striking out eight. Of the 21 outs he recorded on the day, 19 of them came either via a strikeout or groundball. After back-to-back poor starts to kick off the month, Martinez has now allowed just two runs over his last three outings to lower his ERA to 3.54. He'll try to keep it going against the Dodgers this weekend.

Chase Anderson allowed 10 hits but just two runs in Monday's extra-innings loss to the Cardinals.

Just one of the Cards' hits off Anderson went for extra bases and the righty walked only one, which is why he was able to pitch out of most jams. Anderson's ERA went up to 2.59 for the season, but he's given up just five runs over his last five outings. He'll take on the Brewers in Milwaukee this weekend.

Jhonny Peralta singled an ripped a walk-off, solo home run in Monday's victory over the Diamondbacks.

The Cardinals' bullpen coughed up a lead in the eighth inning and they had to pitch out of bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th. However, Peralta made the wait worth it with a leadoff shot against J.C. Ramirez that just snuck over the left-field wall. The shortstop is putting together an All-Star caliber campaign with a .304/.367/.500 batting line and seven home runs.
May 25 - 7:55 PM

Mark Trumbo slugged a game-tying, two-run homer in the eighth inning of Monday's loss to the Cardinals.

His blast after an Ender Inciarte single came off of terrific reliever Kevin Siegrist, as the D'Backs knotted things up before the Cards eventually won in the 10th. Trumbo has given Arizona pretty much what they should have expected this season with a .264/.303/.507 batting line and seven home runs.

Brandon Morrow (shoulder) will throw a simulated game on Wednesday.

If that goes well, he should be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Morrow has been on the shelf since early May with right shoulder inflammation but could be ready to rejoin the Padres' rotation in a couple weeks if all goes well.
May 25 - 7:44 PM

Avisail Garcia exited Monday's game against the Blue Jays in the second inning with an apparent injury.

Garcia singled in his lone at-bat in the top of the frame but then was removed for defense in the bottom of the inning. The outfield has battled inflammation in his right knee of late, so it's safe to assume that's the issue here again. The White Sox should update his status soon.
May 25 - 7:40 PM

Josh Johnson (elbow) will be shut down from throwing due to a nerve issue in his neck.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Johnson has now had setbacks with his triceps and now his neck. The good news is that the nerve issue doesn't appear to be a big deal and he hopes to resume playing catch later this week. However, obviously he can't be counted on anytime soon.
May 25 - 7:32 PM

Wil Myers will undergo scans on Tuesday to check the healing of his left wrist.

Myers said Monday that he's feeling better, but the Padres want to see how his tendinitis is progressing before he's cleared to do anything. The outfielder hasn't played in two weeks and it doesn't sound like he's going to be back in the near future.
