Dodgers transferred LHP Paco Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Eric Surkamp. Rodriguez is out until at least September after surgery to remove loose bodies in his pitching elbow.

Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Surkamp had been expected to get a spot start Monday, but instead he's expected to be the first out of the bullpen. He seems likely to be designated for assignment after the game.
Jul 6 - 5:33 PM

Dodgers optioned LHP Daniel Coulombe to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Coulombe allowed one run over two relief innings in his most recent stint with the big club. He'll return to a 4.03 ERA at Oklahoma City.

A specialist has confirmed that Steven Souza doesn't have a fracture or tendon damage in his ailing right pinkie.

The Rays don't expect Souza to need a stint on the disabled list, although it's possible that could change if he doesn't feel improvement in the coming days. The outfielder is available Monday to pinch-run and/or play defense.
Jul 6 - 5:31 PM

Yimi Garcia will start Monday's game versus the Phillies.

Eric Surkamp had been expected to get the call, but he'll instead follow Garcia in what will be a bullpen game. Garcia hasn't started a game since 2011 in rookie ball.
Jul 6 - 5:24 PM

Lorenzo Cain will be sidelined for a few days after aggravating his left hamstring injury on Sunday.

It's an ailment Cain has been trying to play through for a couple weeks now. Royals manager Ned Yost expects the outfielder to be fine for next week's All-Star game, but it sounds like he could be sidelined for most of this week's action. Jarrod Dyson is handling center field Monday.
Jul 6 - 5:22 PM

Rafael Soriano has been assigned to Double-A Tennessee.

Soriano threw in extended spring training for a while after the Cubs signed him last month, but he's ready to pitch in real games now. He shouldn't need too many tune-up outings, so expect the veteran reliever to be added to the big league bullpen shortly after the All-Star break.
Jul 6 - 5:16 PM

Yordano Ventura (hand) has officially been cleared to start on Thursday against the Rays after a successful bullpen session Monday.

Ventura had been slated for another rehab start, but the Royals changed their mind after he felt good in a 'pen session over the weekend. Given the nice matchup, fantasy owners can probably go ahead and roll with the righty this week. Joe Blanton will head back to the bullpen following Ventura's return.
