Wilin Rosario is in the the Rockies' starting lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

He'll get a breather with the day game after the night game. Yorvit Torrealba will make the start behind the dish and catch Jorge De La Rosa.

Troy Tulowitzki is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

The Rockies also have a scheduled day off on Thursday, so it's not a bad way to give him a rest. Jonathan Herrera will make the start at shortstop.

Mitch Moreland is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Athletics.

He's just getting the day off. Jeff Baker will make the start at first base.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that Kyle Lohse began feeling discomfort in his right elbow "two or three starts ago" and was recovering slower than usual between starts.

As a result, the Brewers have scratched him from his next scheduled start on Saturday. The Brewers are hopeful that it's not a major issue, but this isn't what you want to hear from someone who is in the first year of a three-year, $33 million contract.

Mets prospect right-hander Rafael Montero has returned to Double-A Binghamton following a spot-start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

It wasn't about Montero's performance, as he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings while striking out five. The 22-year-old right-hander should get a legitimate chance in the Triple-A rotation before long and could be a consideration for a cup of coffee with the big club in September.

Jaime Garcia was diagnosed with a 30-40 percent tear of the labrum in his left shoulder.

Dr. James Andrews recommended the surgery and reportedly expressed amazement that Garcia pitched as well as he did under the circumstances. The Cardinals' team doctor will perform the surgery and we'll likely have a better idea about a timeline once the procedure is complete. But it's safe to say that the Cardinals aren't counting on anything from him the rest of the way in 2013.

Andre Ethier is out of Wednesday's lineup, in part because Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he wanted to put out his "most competitive lineup" and one that would "fight the hardest."

Ouch. Ethier is only hitting .264 with four homers and a .758 OPS this season, but it's hard to see how Scott Van Slyke is a better option against right-hander Wily Peralta. Either way, Mattingly sounds like someone who is feeling the pressure of his team's struggles. This could be the beginning of the end for him in Los Angeles.

Jaime Garcia will undergo surgery on his left shoulder.

No word yet on the exact nature of the procedure, but surgery was always considered a strong possibility. Feel free to drop Garcia in redraft leagues if you haven't already. Tyler Lyons will fill Garcia's spot in the rotation for the time being, but the Cardinals are hoping to have Jake Westbrook (elbow) back from the disabled list soon. Chris Carpenter could be a possibility for the rotation down the road.
