David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer in a 4-2 win over the Yankees on Friday night.

Ortiz took a first-pitch curveball from Dellin Betances and launched it over the Green Monster to give Boston the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. The veteran slugger was 0-for-7 with four strikeouts against Betances before the go-ahead blast. Ortiz is now up to 507 home runs for his career and is batting .297/.395/.568 with three home runs and 16 RBI through 21 games in his farewell season.

Craig Kimbrel threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning against the Yankees on Friday for his seventh save of the season.

Kimbrel needed just 11 pitches to get through the frame and notched one strikeout along the way. The 27-year-old has had a pair of rough outings in the early going, so he still has a 4.09 ERA, but he has struck out 19 batters in 11 innings of work.
Apr 29 - 10:15 PM

Henry Owens was handed a no-decision Friday after yielding two runs over six innings against the Yankees.

Below 90 mph for the great majority of the night, Owens gave up six hits (including a solo homer to Alex Rodriguez), walked three, and also hit a batter. He was fortunate that his line didn’t look much worse. The soft-tossing lefty might get another start or two while the club waits for Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), but he’s not a recommended fantasy option.
Apr 29 - 10:14 PM

Masahiro Tanaka was charged with two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Friday.

Tanaka allowed just three hits while shutting down the Red Sox over the first six innings, but he unraveled in the seventh by giving up three hits, including a game-tying double to Jackie Bradley, Jr. He struck out five and walked none. Tanaka only has one win to his credit thus far, but he owns a 2.87 ERA through his first five starts and has allowed exactly two earned runs in all of them. He’ll face the Orioles on the road next time out.
Apr 29 - 10:13 PM

Jackie Bradley delivered a two-run double Friday against the Yankees.

He doubled off Masahiro Tanaka to tie the game in the seventh before David Ortiz put the Red Sox in front with a two-run blast in the eighth. He’s made a habit out of big hits recently, including a go-ahead single on Sunday and a go-ahead solo homer on Monday. While he’s still just batting .244/.294/.397 overall, he has driven in six runs over his last six games.
Apr 29 - 10:13 PM

Alex Rodriguez socked a solo homer Friday against the Red Sox.

He’s up to four home runs on the season and 691 for his career. Rodriguez has five hits (including two doubles and two home runs) over his last three games, so at least he’s showing some signs of life. The 40-year-old is batting .194/.286/.419 overall.
Apr 29 - 10:12 PM

Avisail Garcia tweaked his hamstring during the final out of Friday's loss to the Orioles.

Garcia will be re-evaluated on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out on Saturday as a precautionary measure. He collected an RBI triple in Friday's game before suffering the injury.
Apr 29 - 10:10 PM

Michael Saunders clobbered a pair of solo home runs on Friday, powering the Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Saunders tagged left-hander Drew Smyly (for the second time this season) for a solo blast in the third inning to open the scoring in the contest. He then launched another impressive drive off southpaw Dana Eveland in the eighth inning, increasing the Rays advantage to 3-0. Saunders has settled in nicely atop the Blue Jays lineup and is slashing an impressive .324/.377/.606 with four homers and eight RBI on the season.
