FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays are considering promoting pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez and using him as a reliever.
The move would help keep Sanchez's innings down while also giving the Jays a potentially dynamic option in the bullpen. Rosenthal says that the Jays are also considering promoting fellow prospect Daniel Norris to Triple-A and possibly eventually the majors as a reliever. Sanchez holds a 3.94 ERA with 82 strikeouts over 98 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season.
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal report that the Angels, Blue Jays and Tigers have been in contact with Rangers regarding Joakim Soria.
The Angels would be the best landing spot for Soria from a fantasy perspective, as he would figure to have the best chance to remain a closer. Soria is making a reasonable $5.5 million this season with a $7 million club option for 2015, so it's no surprise that he's drawing interest. He's put up a 2.76 ERA and ridiculous 40/4 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings this season.
Cardinals claimed C George Kottaras off waivers from the Indians.
The Cards needed some depth at catcher following the Yadier Molina (thumb) injury, and Kottaras makes sense as a stop-gap. The 31-year-old is a career .216/.326/.415 hitter but did slug three homers over 10 games with the Tribe. He figures to share time with Tony Cruz while Molina is out, with Audry Perez heading back to Triple-A Memphis.
Yankees acquired LHP Jeff Francis from the Athletics in exchange for cash considerations.
Francis had been designated for assignment last week. Th left-hander posted a 6.08 ERA over 13 1/3 relief innings for the A's but might even get a shot in the Yankees' rotation with all of their injuries.
Billy Hamilton is back in the Reds' lineup Friday.
Hamilton didn't start Thursday after tweaking his left hamstring, though he was able to pinch-hit. The speedster is back in there Friday, though it remains to be seen whether he'll take it easy on the bases in order to protect the hammy.
Cubs recalled LHP Zach Rosscup from Triple-A Iowa.
Rosscup was unscored upon in his four relief frames for the Cubs earlier this season. He'll be used in the middle innings.
Cubs optioned RHP Blake Parker to Triple-A Iowa.
Parker has allowed six runs over 5 2/3 relief innings for the Cubbies this season. He's being replaced in the bullpen by Zach Rosscup.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Mariners recently scouted Marlon Byrd.
The M's are in the market for a right-handed power bat, and Byrd certainly fits the profile. The 36-year-old has slugged 18 homers and driven in 52 runs this season while sporting a .261/.313/.481 batting line. He's in the first year of a two-year, $16 million contract with the Phillies.
