Panthers coach Ron Rivera said maybe the team "got ahead of ourselves" in Kelvin Benjamin's recovery from an ACL tear this offseason.

"Maybe we did get him out there too soon, too much," Rivera said. Benjamin has not been spectacular, but he has actually caught a larger percentage of his targets and averaged more yards per catch this year than his rookie season. He also is dealing with a shoulder injury which likely has nothing to do with being pushed back "too soon." The Panthers will look for answers after this lost season, but Benjamin has been fine.

Saints TE Josh Hill suffered a broken fibula Week 13 against the Lions.

Hill also suffered an ankle injury, but it is not believed to be broken. It is a tough turn of events for a player who had been taking over the starting job in the last several weeks. With Hill out for the season, Coby Fleener should have steadier snap and route totals moving forward. In the first year of a three-year, $7.1 million deal, Hill will be back to compete for a role next season.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Jordan Matthews (ankle) should return to practice Wednesday.

Matthews was able to get in a limited practice last Thursday, but he was held out on Friday after getting "a little sore." A return Wednesday would tentatively put Matthews on track to play, but another setback cannot be ruled out. Devoid of reliable weapons in the passing game, the Eagles need Matthews healthy as soon as possible.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Ryan Mathews (knee) is expected to practice Wednesday.

Mathews has missed the last two games with an MCL sprain. A practice Wednesday would put him on track to play against the Redskins, but Pederson said just last week the injury "could linger." Mathews should be considered questionable.

Dorial Green-Beckham suffered an "oblique contusion" Week 13 against the Bengals.

Coach Doug Pederson said he likely will not practice Wednesday but will play against the Redskins. We have heard similar claims from Pederson before only to see players miss multiple games, but DGB should be fine if it is only a bruise. He will take a backseat to Jordan Matthews this week, who looks set to return from an ankle injury.

ESPN's Pat McManamon wrote "all signs point" to Robert Griffin III getting the start this week.

Hue Jackson has yet to name a starter, and McManamon's prediction comes with the important caveat of "provided he makes it through practice and looks like he has shaken off three months of rust." Still, it makes sense for the Browns to see what Griffin can do, especially considering they averaged fewer than 10 points in their last four games. Even if Griffin gets the nod, the offense around him is too poor and the chance of an in-game injury is too high to trust him in the first-round of the playoffs.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is unsure if he will play again this season.

"I don't know. We'll see how it goes," Pouncey said. The center did say his hip "feels good" and he is making progress, but that progress has clearly been slow. On the bright side, the Dolphins did get LT Branden Albert and LG Laremy Tunsil back against the Ravens.

Bill Belichick said DE Jabaal Sheard has been good the last couple weeks.

Sheard did not even travel with the team for the Week 11 game in San Francisco, but he has played 44 percent and 54 percent of the defensive snaps in the last two games with seven tackles and a couple pass breakups over that span. Too good not to play for a struggling defense, Sheard should remain involved the rest of the way.
