Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing.

Doolittle remains relegated to strengthening exercises as he rehabs a slight tear in his left rotator cuff. The A's are hoping their closer will be ready at some point in April, but obviously the longer it is until he resumes throwing, the less likely it will be that he's available that soon.

Dodgers signed C Ali Solis to a minor league contract.

Solis agreed to terms with the Dodgers in January but saw the deal fall apart due to a contractual issue. Obviously the two sides worked out whatever that problem was. The 27-year-old will serve as organizational depth.

Royals signed 1B Casey Kotchman to a minor league contract.

Kotchman, 32, sat out last season after going hitless in 20 at-bats for the Marlins in 2013. The veteran first baseman was a starter not that long ago, but he's merely organizational depth at this point.

Reds signed RHP Chris Carpenter to a minor league contract.

Carpenter, 29, spent last season in Japan. He last appeared in the majors in 2012 with the Red Sox.

Red Sox signed INF/OF Joe Thurston to a minor league contract.

Thurston, 35, spent the last two seasons in independent ball and the Mexican League. He last appeared in the majors in 2011.

Daniel Murphy has been diagnosed with a bruised right hand.

Murphy had to leave Friday's game after being hit by a pitch. It's not clear whether he required X-rays, but either way it appears he dodged a bullet. Murphy could sit out a day or two while the swelling subsides.

Jose Iglesias left Friday's game against the Mets with a right shin contusion.

It sounds bad given that he missed last season with stress fractures in both shins, but it appears this is unrelated. Iglesias was injured when hit the base awkwardly on a stolen base attempt. "I slid too late and hit it in the wrong spot, but I'll be fine," he said.
Mar 6 - 2:37 PM

Orioles signed RHP Elih Villanueva to a minor league contract.

Villanueva, 28, spent last season at Triple-A with the Marlins, posting a 4.47 ERA over 28 starts. He's coming off a successful stint in the Venezuelan Winter League, having held a 2.63 ERA. Villanueva hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.
