Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers are nearing a six-year contract extension with Rougned Odor that's expected to be around $50 million.

Odor has been reportedly seeking a six-year pact in the neighborhood of $52.5 million, which is the figure Jason Kipnis landed in a similar spot after the 2014 season. Kevin Kiermaier was in a similar situation this offseason and secured a six-year, $53.5 million extension from the Rays that Grant notes could serve as a blueprint for the Odor deal. The 23-year-old hit .271/.296/.502 with 33 homers, 88 RBI and 14 stolen bases in a breakthrough 2016 season.

Gregory Polanco was scratched from Saturday's Grapefruit League lineup due to left shoulder discomfort.

While it doesn't sound like anything more than a minor issue, it's not the type of thing you want to be hearing so close to the start of the regular season, especially right in the thick of fantasy draft season. This shouldn't impact his availability for Opening Day, but could cause the risk-averse drafters to let him slide a few more picks.

Tyrone Taylor is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after tweaking his hamstring during an outfield drill.

The Brewers have a wealth of young talent in the outfield both at the major league level and in the minor leagues, so it's hard to see Taylor breaking through to the big leagues in 2017. The 23-year-old hit .232/.303/.327 with nine homers, 34 RBI and nine stolen bases in 134 games at Double-A Biloxi in 2016.

Braves released RHP Blaine Boyer.

The club informed him on Saturday that he wouldn't be making the Opening Day bullpen and have given him an opportunity to latch on elsewhere. If he's unable to land a big league job, they would love to have him back on a minor league deal to function as bullpen depth at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Mar 25 - 10:25 AM

The Astros informed Reid Brignac on Saturday that he won't be making the Opening Day roster.

He made a case for a reserve role with a strong showing in Cactus League play, hitting .326/.370/.512 with a homer and 10 RBI in 43 at-bats. He'll remain on the major league side of camp for now.

Cardinals optioned OF Tommy Pham to Triple-A Memphis.

This move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Pham entered spring training as the favorite to secure a reserve outfielder role with the club. He hurt his chances by hitting just .209/.320/.279 with a 16/4 K/BB ratio in 43 spring at-bats. His departure brings Jose Martinez closer to cracking the Opening Day roster.
Mar 25 - 10:10 AM

Collin McHugh (arm) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Monday against the Cardinals.

The veteran right-hander has been fighting through a "dead arm" phase and has only pitched in minor league games so far. He's expected to begin the season with a short stint on the disabled list before joining the Astros' rotation.
Mar 25 - 10:03 AM

While the Red Sox believe that Tyler Thornburg (arm) will be ready for Opening Day, he'll be eased into the primary setup role in front of closer Craig Kimbrel.

Thornburg looked good in a minor league game on Friday and there's growing optimism about his status for the start of the regular season. It sounds like he'll begin the year in lower leverage situations though until he shows that he's fully back to form. In that case, Joe Kelly would likely function in the eighth inning role.
