Jayson Werth had to leave a game at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday with a "very, very mild hamstring strain," according to manager Pat Listach.

Werth is sitting out Wednesday but it sounds like he should be back soon. The 39-year-old could get a chance with the Mariners given all of their injuries, although he's hitting just .193/.260/.386 over 96 plate appearances so far for Tacoma. He does have four homers for the Rainiers.

Nelson Cruz (elbow) is expected to return to the Mariners' lineup Wednesday.

Cruz hasn't played since being hit on the left elbow by a pitch Saturday, but he's feeling better and manager Scott Servais indicated that the slugger probably could've played Tuesday, but "I wanted to give Nelson another day." Cruz has been banged up often this season, dealing with a sprained ankle and bruised foot in addition to the elbow malady.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Mac Williamson (concussion) could return this weekend.

And possibly as early as Friday. Williamson is 5-for-15 (.333) with two home runs and six RBI through four rehab games with Triple-A Sacramento and should resume seeing regular starts in the San Francisco outfield. He's been on the concussion disabled list since April 28.

Tyler O'Neill has been added to the Cardinals' starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Marcell Ozuna got scratched. O'Neill, 22, boasts a .348/.385/.783 batting line with three home runs and seven RBI through his first 12 games at the MLB level. He'll hit cleanup and play left field on Wednesday.

Marcell Ozuna has been scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday versus the Royals.

No reason has been given yet. Tyler O'Neill is now starting in left field and hitting cleanup against Kansas City right-hander Jake Junis.

Nationals designated RHP Carlos Torres for assignment.

Torres had allowed seven earned runs over 9 2/3 innings out of the Nationals' bullpen. The 35-year-old right-hander has been an effective reliever in the past and could draw interest from other clubs on waivers.

Juan Soto will bat second for the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres.

It's the highest lineup slot to date for Soto, who batted sixth on Monday and Tuesday. The 19-year-old top outfield prospect has three hits, a homer, three RBI, and three walks through his first nine plate appearances at the major league level.
May 23 - 12:39 PM

Nationals recalled RHP Erick Fedde from Triple-A Syracuse.

Fedde will make a spot start for the Nats on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres. He's registered a weak 4.35 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 42/13 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings (eight starts) this season at Triple-A, but the 25-year-old former first-round pick makes for a decent fantasy streamer versus a San Diego offense that ranks 29th in team OPS.
