Jean Segura is getting the day off Thursday afternoon against the Yankees.

Andrew Romine will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Mariners versus right-hander Luis Severino. This looks to be a routine day of maintenance for Segura, who boasts a .334/.359/.480 batting line with six home runs, 44 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 52 runs scored in 71 games this season.

Yankees activated RHP Luis Cessa from the 10-day disabled list.

Cessa will return to the Yankees' bullpen ahead of Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Mariners after missing over two months with a severe left oblique strain. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed just one unearned run over four innings in his last rehab appearance June 16 at Double-A Trenton. He'll work in long relief.

Yankees placed RHP A.J. Cole on the 10-day disabled list with a left neck strain.

Cole has pitched well for the Yankees since they acquired him from the Nationals in late April, posting a 0.69 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 13 innings of relief. Luis Cessa (oblique) has been activated off the DL in a corresponding move.

Brett Gardner (knee) remains out of the Yankees' starting lineup on Thursday against the Mariners.

Gardner has apparently made some progress in his recovery from a sore right knee, but he'll sit out for a fifth straight game with the Mariners starting left-hander James Paxton in this matinee tilt at Yankee Stadium. Giancarlo Stanton is in left field and Gary Sanchez is taking a turn at designated hitter.

Aaron Hicks is getting the day off Thursday against the Mariners.

Clint Frazier will start in center field and bat leadoff versus Mariners left-hander James Paxton. This appears to be a routine day of rest for Hicks, who's batting .300/.364/.617 through 66 plate appearances in June.

Esmil Rogers has been released from his contract with the Nexen Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization.

The Nexen Heroes have in turn signed 35-year-old right-hander Eric Hacker to a one-year, $300,000 contract. KBO teams are only allowed to carry three foreign-born players, per league rules. Rogers broke his right ring finger on June 3 when he took a comebacker off his pitching hand.

Eric Hacker has signed a one-year, $300,000 contract with the Nexen Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization.

Hacker headed to South Korea in 2013, after struggling in a short stint with the Giants, and is now gearing up for his sixth straight season in the KBO. The 35-year-old right-hander posted a 3.42 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 97/29 K/BB ratio across 160 1/3 innings (26 starts) in 2017 with the NC Dinos.

Nick Williams (nose) went 1-for-4 in his return to the Phillies' starting lineup Wednesday.

Williams suffered a broken nose on Monday night when he got struck in the face by a ball that ricocheted off the right field fence at Citizens Bank Park, but he toughed it out to play a full nine innings on Wednesday afternoon. The 24-year-old is slashing .232/.300/.427 with eight home runs in 65 games this year.
