The Washington Post reports the Redskins interviewed ex-Chargers DC John Pagano for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Jan 19 - 7:51 PM

The Sacramento Bee reports the 49ers were interested in bringing Bears DC Vic Fangio back to San Francisco for the same position, but that the Bears blocked the move.

In other words, coach-in-waiting Kyle Shanahan reached out to Fangio, but was rebuffed by Fangio's current boss, John Fox. With the 49ers yet to even hire a general manager, it's an indication Shanahan will have wide latitude if/when he gets the job. Fangio did an excellent 2016 job with an undermanned unit.

Bills hired Rick Dennison as offensive coordinator.

Dennison was the Broncos' coordinator the past two seasons, but wasn't retained following Gary Kubiak's resignation. Dennison also coordinated the Texans' offense under Kubiak from 2010-13. It's a decent, if unimaginative, hire for a Bills team that isn't setting the world ablaze with its new coaching staff. Dennison's addition doesn't really speak to Tyrod Taylor's future one way or the other, though he was Taylor's QBs coach for the Ravens in 2014 when Taylor was still a backup. Like Kubiak, Dennison is a run-first, play-action oriented play-caller.

Jeff Janis (quad) was upgraded to "full" in Thursday's practice.

Janis has fallen behind Trevor Davis on the depth chart, but with Jordy Nelson (ribs), Davante Adams (ankle) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) all banged up, he could be needed for important snaps against the Falcons.

Davante Adams (ankle) won't guarantee his status for the NFC Championship Game.

Adams says the issue isn't as debilitating as his 2015 ankle injury, but that he won't know his status until the weekend. Adams is expected to test his ankle on Saturday. He's yet to practice, and will be held out on Friday, as well. If Adams suits up against the Falcons, he'll almost certainly be on a snap count. With Jordy Nelson (ribs) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) also banged up, the Packers are going to need contributions from Randall Cobb, Trevor Davis and Jeff Janis.

Raiders RT Austin Howard's shoulder operation was to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff.

It's a major operation to repair an injury that happened during training camp. Howard will need the majority of the offseason to recover and rehab, but should be ready for next Week 1. Going on 29, Howard was ineffective as he played hurt in 2016. He signed for $4.9 million in 2017.

Patriots signed TE Rob Housler to a reserve/future contract.

The ex-Cardinal has spent the past two years bouncing around the league, making zero appearances in 2016. Going on 29, Housler will be a long-shot to crack the Patriots' 53-man roster.
Jan 19 - 5:15 PM

Seahawks signed CB Demetrius McCray, WR Jamel Johnson, DT Rodney Coe, TE Chris Briggs and WR Rodney Smith to reserve/future contracts.

A 2013 seventh-round pick of the Jaguars, McCray appeared in at least 14 games each of his first three years in the league before spending 2016 on the street. A big (6-foot-2) corner, he'll get a shot in Seattle.
