Lions waived QB Kellen Moore.
Moore has been with the Lions since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He had a solid summer, but was never going to overcome his physical limitations. Moore is undersized, and lacks arm strength. Dan Orlovsky is Matthew Stafford's backup.
The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reported "there's a growing sense" Geno Smith could return sooner than expected.
That sense grew stronger after the Jets cut Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson on Saturday, leaving just rookie Bryce Petty behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Smith is unlikely to return to a starting job, but he could be fit enough for backup duty in the first month of the season.
Cowboys waived QB Dustin Vaughan.
A second-year UDFA out of West Texas A&M, Vaughan looked sharp in the 2014 preseason and like a potential long-term backup. He disappointed this August, however, and was outplayed by undrafted rookie Jameill Showers, who offers more athleticism. Showers is the current No. 3 behind Tony Romo and Brandon Weeden, although Showers' 53-man roster spot is far from assured.
9 News Denver's Mike Klis reported RB Montee Ball is not among the Broncos' final cuts.
Ball's roster spot seemed all but gone after a disastrous showing in the fourth preseason game, but Denver will keep the former second-round pick around for at least another couple days. Ball could still be cut once waiver claims begin this afternoon.
Lions released WR Greg Salas.
Salas was productive this preseason with 138 yards and a touchdown on 10 receptions, but a knee injury suffered in the final preseason game likely sealed his fate. This move could be good news for sophomore WR T.J. Jones.
Redskins waived RB Trey Williams.
An undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M, Williams was pushing Chris Thompson for No. 3 duties, but ultimately couldn't make the leap. He should be stashed on the practice squad.
Chiefs waived RB Spencer Ware.
A fullback/tailback tweener, Ware spent Chiefs camp primarily playing tailback, and didn't embarrass himself. He scored a touchdown in the preseason finale. Unfortunately, Ware was outplayed by Charcandrick West behind Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. Darrin Reaves also remains on the roster -- for now.
Bengals released DT Devon Still.
He wasn't able to beat out Brandon Thompson for backup duties behind starter Geno Atkins. Still saw 237 snaps last season after a brief practice squad stint and it's feasible that could happen again if someone on the D-line gets injured.
