Colby Rasmus drove in all four Rays runs with a single and a double Thursday against the Angels.

Rasmus has fanned 28 times in 71 plate appearances since coming off the DL, but he's still been productive, batting .246 with five homers and 14 RBI in 19 games. His performance mirrors the Rays' offense as a whole to this point of the season; the team is on pace to blow away the MLB record for strikeouts in a season, but it's still scoring runs at a pretty good clip.
May 25 - 4:34 PM

Luis Valbuena went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Rays on Thursday, dropping his average to .167.

Valbuena did just fine in his first 10 games back from the disabled list, but he's 2-for-35 with no extra-base hits since. The Angels also aren't getting anything from Jefry Marte, so perhaps C.J. Cron will rejoin the team soon.

Mets activated SS Asdrubal Cabrera from the 10-day disabled list.

Cabrera missed a little less than two weeks with a sprained thumb. He's not starting Thursday night's game against the Padres but will be available off the bench. Cabrera carries a .257/.339/.381 slash line with three homers, 14 RBI and three steals this season.

Mets optioned C Kevin Plawecki to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets needed to make room for Asdrubal Cabrera, who was activated from the disabled list ahead of Thursday's game against the Padres. Plawecki spent a month backing up Rene Rivera but is no longer needed with Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) back in the fold.

Rafael Montero will make a spot start Thursday against the Padres.

Montero is starting in place of Jacob deGrom, who had his start pushed back to Friday due to weather concerns. The right-hander fared poorly in his first start this year, scattering seven hits, five runs and three walks over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on May 5. Even against a weak Padres lineup, Montero won't be a recommended streaming option.
May 25 - 4:17 PM

Jacob deGrom's scheduled start Thursday against the Padres has been pushed back to Friday.

With storms in the forecast for Thursday night, the Mets don't want to risk wasting deGrom's turn with an abbreviated start. Instead, deGrom will start Friday's series opener at Pittsburgh. Rafael Montero will make a spot start Thursday at Citi Field, assuming the game goes on as planned.

Nelson Cruz hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to help propel the Mariners past the Nationals 4-2 on Thursday.

Cruz has been tearing it up since a lousy first week of the season, and he's taken over the AL lead with 40 RBI this year. The homer was his 12th, so he's right on pace for what would be a fourth straight 40-homer season.
May 25 - 4:03 PM

Ariel Miranda allowed two runs over five innings Thursday in notching a win over the Nationals.

Miranda got the win even though Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez allowed as many runs in a slightly longer outing (two in 5 1/3 innings). The Mariners were trailing 2-0 when Miranda finished up, but they scored three runs in the top of the sixth and held on from there. Miranda has allowed four runs over 17 innings in his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 5.20 to 4.22.
