Mitch Moreland was scratched Wednesday because he's dealing with the flu.

Moreland won't travel with the team to Washington, D.C. and will head straight to Boston instead. He should have enough time to be ready to go for the season.

Yankees optioned C Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; reassigned INF Tyler Wade to minor league camp.

Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine will handle catching duties for the Yankees this season, but Higashioka could make his way to the majors if there's an injury. The 26-year-old was added to the 40-man roster in November after batting .276/.337/.511 with 21 homers and 81 RBI between Double- and Triple-A last year. Wade was mentioned as a possible fill-in option for Didi Gregorius (shoulder) at shortstop, but the Yankees now appear likely to lean on Ronald Torreyes.

Steven Wright pitched Tuesday with an elastic brace on his left knee and was wearing a larger metal brace when he arrived at the clubhouse on Wednesday.

It's not what you want to hear, but Wright said he's wearing the brace for precautionary reasons to address some occasional soreness over the past couple of weeks. He insists that the knee issues haven't impacted his pitching. While Wright entered the spring with some questions about his shoulder, he has put that to rest by posting a 0.68 ERA over 13 1/3 innings during Grapefruit League action.

Twins reassigned RHP Nick Tepesch to minor league camp.

Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune notes that this means Michael Tonkin and Justin Haley are both likely to make the Opening Day roster. Tepesch, a non-roster invitee, compiled a 4.41 ERA and 9/9 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings this spring.

Twins reassigned RHP Alex Wimmers to minor league camp.

Wimmers allowed two runs over nine innings with an 8/4 K/BB ratio this spring as a non-roster player. The 2010 first-round pick made the full-time move to the bullpen last year and posted a 4.15 ERA over 16 appearances during his first taste of the bigs. He could earn his way back this year.

Juan Lagares (oblique) will try to do some running on Wednesday.

Lagares exited Saturday's game with a left oblique strain, but he said Tuesday that he was encouraged by the MRI results. He still thinks he could be ready for Opening Day, but players often state a more optimistic view of these sort of things than the team and their training staff. There should be more clarity soon.
Mar 29 - 9:24 AM

Red Sox reassigned LHP Edgar Olmos to minor league camp.

Olmos didn't make the decision easy for the Red Sox, posting a 1.54 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. Despite the strong performance, there just wasn't a spot for him.

Matt Harvey will start the Mets' third game of the regular season.

Noah Syndergaard will start Opening Day against the Braves while Jacob deGrom will get the ball for the second game. Harvey has started to look a lot more like himself over his last couple of spring outings, so he's carrying some momentum going into the season. He's making his way back from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. The Mets haven't announced their rotation plans beyond the first three games.
