Trevor May allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings of work but took the loss against the Athletics on Tuesday.

May was good enough to win but Jesse Chavez was up to the task on the other side as well. May gave up five hits and walked two, with the A's scoring their runs on a couple of RBI singles. The 25-year-old struck out three in the start. He'd won his previous two decisions, dropping to 2-2 with the loss, and he'll try to regain a winning record Sunday at the Indians.

Billy Burns went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Burns had five steals at Triple-A Nashville prior to being recalled, and he recorded his first theft in his fourth game Tuesday. It was his third multi-hit performance in those four games and he's got at least one hit in all four, raising his average to .368 in an admittedly small sample.

Jeff Samardzija was shaky early but recovered to go seven innings, limiting the Tigers to two runs in the White Sox' 5-2 victory Tuesday.

Samardzija appeared to be heading down a familiar road after allowing runs in the first and second innings, but he settled in to hold the Tigers off the board over the ensuing five innings. Samardzija gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out seven in the win. It hasn't come easy for the right-hander this year, but he's now 2-2 with a more respectable 4.38 ERA. An interleague date with the Reds on Sunday is on tap.
May 5 - 11:39 PM

Alex Avila went 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season in a loss to the White Sox on Tuesday.

The homer was Avila's first since an Opening Day blast. He also singled in the game. The catcher is hitting just .214 but has a nice .362 on-base percentage thanks to a 19/13 K/BB ratio in 21 games. His offensive struggles have led Tigers manager Brad Ausmus to turn to James McCann more often in recent weeks.
May 5 - 11:36 PM

Anthony Gose went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

The steal was Gose's fifth of the year and he's now got 10 runs scored. His .313 average and .343 on-base percentage are largely buoyed by his early success, but Gose has shown that it wasn't entirely a mirage with some good games recently. And even if it was, his speed should provide a good number of steals if nothing else.

Twins placed INF Eduardo Nunez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 30, with a left oblique strain.

Nunez tweaked the oblique over the weekend and tested it out during batting practice on Tuesday, to no avail. Doug Bernier's being called up to take his place on the roster. Working in a bench utility role, Nunez has only seen 22 at-bats this season, but he's made the most of them, racking up nine hits. He hit .250/.271/.382 in 201 at-bats during the 2014 campaign. There's no immediate timetable for his return.
May 5 - 11:28 PM

David Robertson pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Tigers to earn his fourth save of the season Tuesday.

Robertson threw 10 strikes among his 13 pitches in the efficient outing. The right-hander still hasn't allowed a run and has given up just four hits and a walk through 10 appearances.
May 5 - 11:27 PM

Shane Greene's run of tough starts continued Tuesday, as he allowed five runs over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox.

Greene was a hot name coming into the season and backed up the hype by allowing just one earned run over his first three starts, but he's now posted three straight clunkers in his past three starts. On Tuesday, Greene gave up five hits but also walked four, including walking in a run. It might have been worse had Tigers manager Brad Ausmus not decided he'd seen enough after 57 pitches. It's hard to say whether Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde will show up Sunday against the Royals.
