Rick Ankiel tripled and doubled twice against the Reds on Wednesday.

The triple should have been a double, too, but Xavier Paul fell down in left field twice on the play. Ankiel is now 10-for-31 with seven extra-base hits as a member of the Mets. It probably won't last, but it's nice to see him doing well. His career was in danger of being over when the Astros let him go.

Ryan Madson has experienced yet another setback in his recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery.

Madson felt renewed soreness in his right arm while trying to throw this week and has been shut down indefinitely. There is no longer a timetable for his return and he can be dropped in most fantasy formats at this point. Ernesto Frieri is the Angels' ninth-inning man.
May 22 - 4:15 PM

Derek Lowe has cleared waivers.

Lowe will now either accept an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock or opt to become a free agent. The 39-year-old righty posted a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings with Texas.

Brett Gardner is not in the Yankees' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Orioles.

He's just getting the day off. Curtis Granderson will make the start in center field while Ichiro Suzuki plays right and Vernon Wells starts in left.
May 22 - 3:57 PM

Mike Adams (back) threw a bullpen session Wednesday.

Adams landed on the disabled list earlier this week with a back strain, but reported feeling good and will throw again on Friday. The veteran right-hander thinks he could be ready to return Sunday, but the Phillies may give him some more time.
May 22 - 3:55 PM

Cardinals purchased the contract of LHP Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis.

Lyons will take Jaime Garcia's place in the rotation and make the start Wednesday against the Padres. The 25-year-old southpaw owns a 4.47 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over eight starts this season in Triple-A and is only a band-aid until Jake Westbrook (elbow) is ready to return. He's unlikely to be fantasy relevant.
May 22 - 3:52 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Fernando Salas on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with right shoulder irritation.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but the move clears a spot for Wednesday's starter, Tyler Lyons. Rookie right-hander Carlos Martinez could see an increased role during Salas' absence.
May 22 - 3:50 PM

Cubs recalled RHP Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa.

He'll take the roster spot of right-hander Shawn Camp, who was placed on the disabled list with a sprained toe. Dolis has allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings over two appearances with the Cubs this season and will pitch in middle relief.
