Twins RHP prospect Kohl Stewart worked seven innings Sunday, allowing two runs and five hits in a no-decision for High-A Fort Myers.
It was Stewart's longest outing since May 23. The six strikeouts he recorded were a season-high. Stewart has made strides but he still has a long way to go. Opponents have hit a robust .284 against the right-hander this season. At least he's only let up one homer in 72 2/3 innings.
Dallas Beeler will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.
He'll be up as the 26th man and be sent back down after the spot start. Beeler has struck out 50 over 58 1/3 frames at Triple-A Iowa this season, but he's also posted a 6.33 ERA. Needless to say, fantasy owners can steer clear.
Orioles recalled INF Ryan Flaherty from Triple-A Norfolk.
He was just sent down over the weekend, but he's back to take the roster spot of Nolan Reimold, who is going on paternity leave. Flaherty could be sent back down in a couple days.
Orioles placed OF Nolan Reimold on the paternity leave list.
He can be away from the club for up to three days. Ryan Flaherty has assumed Reimold's spot on the roster.
Astros C prospect Jacob Nottingham extended his hitting streak to seven games Sunday in a win for High-A Lancaster.
All three of his hits were doubles. The 20-year-old was called up from Low-A Quad Cities at the end of June and has hit .409 in five games for his new quad. Nottingham struggled playing rookie ball last season (.230 average in 48 games for Greenville) but has turned things around in a major way in his third year in the Astros' organization.
Dodgers SS prospect Corey Seager launched his eighth homer for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.
That gives him 13 blasts across two minor league levels this season. With Byron Buxton and Kris Bryant both in the bigs, Seager might be the most intriguing prospect left in the minor leagues. He's hit just .265 since June 1 but is still batting .306 for the year with 44 RBI. Even when the hits aren't falling, the 21-year-old doesn't have to worry about making contact. He's struck out just 43 times in 307 at-bats (14 percent). At this point, it would be an upset if Seager doesn't make his Dodgers debut in 2015.
Lorenzo Cain is not in the Royals' lineup Monday.
Cain isn't quite 100 percent yet while battling a hamstring issue, so this is just a precautionary day of rest. Jarrod Dyson is handling center field.
Blue Jays RHP prospect Sean Reid-Foley gave up two hits in five scoreless frames Sunday in his debut for High-A Dunedin.
The game was suspended in the 17th inning with Dunedin and Lakeland locked in 1-1 tie. Reid-Foley went 3-3 with a 3.48 ERA in 15 starts for Low-A Lansing before his promotion on July 2. The 19-year-old has punched out 81 hitters this year (12.29 K/9) but he's also allowed 40 walks. Reid-Foley was Toronto's second-round pick in 2014.
