Adam Engel homered, doubled and walked versus the Yankees in Wednesday's loss.

Center field figured to be a disaster for the White Sox this year, but Leury Garcia was pretty great before getting hurt and now Engel is hitting .319 with a couple of homers in 47 at-bats, though that does come with a 16/2 K/BB ratio. Garcia should be back after the break, which could lead to Engel returning to Triple-A. However, the White Sox could trade either Melky Cabrera or Avisail Garcia next month and open up more outfield at-bats.

Jose Reyes went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a lopsided win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

He delivered an RBI single in the first inning, then scored on a Brandon Nimmo single in the eighth. It's been an awful season for the veteran shortstop but he seems to be playing better lately. He got his batting average over the Mendoza line with today's performance. He is batting .202/.276/.333 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 32 runs scored. His fantasy saving grace is his 10 stolen bases in 11 tries. He stole a career-high 78 bases back in 2007 but those days are long gone.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-3 and smacked a two-run homer in a win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Curtis Granderson led off the game with a walk and Cabrera followed that with a dinger. That was all the offense the Mets would need to win the game but they kept piling on anyway. Cabrera demanded a trade over the weekend after being moved from shortstop to second base. He has hit very well since then though. He has a .269 batting average with seven home runs, 33 runs and 22 RBI in 221 plate appearances for the season.

Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's shutout loss to the Mets.

The Marlins couldn't do anything more than scatter a few singles against Steven Matz and the Mets' bullpen. Ozuna was lifted for a defensive replacement late in the game to give him some extra rest in the blowout. He is having a breakout season, batting .315/.378/.565 with 20 homers and 54 RBI.

Jeff Locke surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings and took a loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

All three runs came in the first inning with an Asdrubal Cabrera two-run bomb doing most of the damage. Locke settled down to come within an out of a quality start. Locke falls to 0-4 with a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in six starts. He lines up for starts against the Cardinals and Giants next week.

George Springer homered, doubled twice, walked and scored three times as the Astros beat the A's 11-8 on Wednesday.

Springer should have been an All-Star last year, but Carlos Beltran got the nod over him in the outfield. It seems safe to say that he'll get the call this year, what with his 24 homers and .952 OPS to date. He's scored 62 runs and driven in 52 in 73 games.

Yonder Alonso left Wednesday's game with a right knee contusion.

Alonso fouled a ball of his knee late in Wednesday's loss to the Astros. As of now, the A's have no plans to send him in for X-rays. Consider the first baseman day-to-day moving forward.
Jun 29 - 12:03 AM

David Paulino gave up four homers and seven runs in four-plus innings against the A's on Wednesday.

Paulino was given nine runs in the first three innings, but he just couldn't stay away from the long ball, even as he racked up eight strikeouts and walked none in his four-plus innings. After six starts, Paulino has a 6.52 ERA, despite a 34/7 K/BB ratio in 29 innings. He has to find a way to keep the ball in the yard in order to stick around. It's possible he'll be replaced with Charlie Morton due back soon.
