Justin Grimm allowed three runs over five innings to pick up the win against the A's on Wednesday.

Grimm followed up his longest outing of the year with one of the shorter ones, throwing just 75 pitches over the five innings before being pulled. It was still enough to get him his sixth win, as he held the A's to just three hits and three walks. His next start will come Tuesday against the Yankees in New York.
Jun 20 - 12:38 AM

Tommy Milone allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.

Nothing went right for Milone on Wednesday. The left-hander allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out just one on the evening. It was more of a death by papercuts than anything, though, as only one of the eight hits went for extra bases. He'll go again Tuesday against the Reds.
Jun 20 - 12:30 AM

Brandon Phillips hit a walk-off single in the 13th inning to give the Reds a 2-1 win over the Pirates on Wednesday.

Phillips has struggled of late, as he's just 12-for-59 (.203) in June, and he was struggling again on Wednesday before the single in the 13th inning. The slump has dropped his average on the season to .272. Maybe Wednesday's heroics will ignite his bat once again.
Jun 20 - 12:21 AM

Jason Grilli blew his first save of the year against the Reds on Wednesday, giving up a game-tying home run to Jay Bruce in the bottom of the ninth inning.

As Meatloaf said, 25 out of 26 ain't bad. The homer was Grilli's first allowed this year as well, and the earned run ballooned his ERA to 0.99. Everyone is entitled to a bad pitch every now and then; Grilli will be just fine.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jay Bruce hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Jason Grilli and the Pirates on Wednesday.

Bruce picked a good time -- if you're a Reds fan, that is -- for his only hit of the night. The solo shot gave him 14 on the year to go with 49 RBI. The outfielder is now hitting .277/.323/.500 after a slow start.
Jun 20 - 12:11 AM

Jeff Locke threw seven scoreless innings but was denied a win against the Reds on Wednesday.

Just when it seems Locke couldn't possibly be pitching better, he does. The southpaw kept the Reds off balance all night, giving up just four hits and three walks while striking out three. The only thing keeping him from being 7-1 was Jason Grilli's first blown save of the year. Locke will toe the rubber again on Tuesday against the Mariners in Seattle.
Jun 20 - 12:06 AM

Bronson Arroyo allowed just one unearned run in seven innings of a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Arroyo was the victim of his own fielding blunder, as the unearned run scored on a fielding error he committed in the third inning. Otherwise he was spotless, keeping the Pirates off the scoreboard. He'll carry a 3.04 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into Tuesday's start against the A's.
Jun 20 - 12:02 AM

Rickie Weeks hit a game-winning two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Brewers beat the Astros 3-1 on Wednesday.

It was Weeks' first game hitting leadoff this year, and he responded by going 2-for-4 with the winning home run. The homer was his sixth of the season, and while he's taken a while to get going his average has been slowly rising since the middle of May. He's always a slow starter, so expect him to continue to get better as the season rolls on.
