Hector Velazquez (back) appears poised to come off the disabled list Thursday.

That's the first day he's eligible. Velazquez was placed on the 10-day disabled list May 14 with a lower back strain, after delivering a 2.10 ERA and 18/5 K/BB ratio over his first 25 2/3 innings this season for the Red Sox.

Trevor May (elbow) is expected to work five innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Rochester.

He'll then go six innings at Rochester on Sunday and could come off the 60-day disabled list after that. It remains unclear whether May will be used as a starter or reliever at the major league level. He is making his way back from Tommy John surgery.
May 22 - 5:39 PM

Jeimer Candelario (wrist) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Toledo.

He's expected to play at least three games on the farm. Candelario landed on the disabled list May 14 due to tendinitis in his left wrist. The 24-year-old third baseman was batting .272/.359/.497 with five home runs and 16 RBI through 37 games this season with Detroit.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports writes that the Mets "will have a deal" with Jose Bautista.

It sounds like there are only a few minor details to sort out. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo was first to report that an agreement was close. Bautista batted just .143/.250/.343 over 40 plate appearances with the Braves and struggled defensively at third base, but he makes sense as immediate right-handed outfield depth for the Mets. There will be no fantasy upside here.
May 22 - 5:34 PM

Ervin Santana (finger) is scheduled to throw around 60 pitches in his first minor league rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Chattanooga.

He will then advance to a 75-pitch outing May 28 at Triple-A Rochester. One more rehab start will likely follow, though it hasn't been determined where that will be. Santana has been out all season after requiring a capsular release (debridement) procedure on his right middle finger in early February. He could eventually carry some mixed-league fantasy value, but there are still some hurdles to clear.
May 22 - 5:31 PM

Elvis Andrus (elbow) has been cleared to swing a bat.

Andrus is currently on the 60-day disabled list with an olecranon fracture in his right elbow -- an injury he suffered back in mid-April. If all goes smoothly with his rehab activities, he could return to the Rangers' active roster around the middle of June. The 29-year-old shortstop was batting .327/.426/.500 through his first 61 plate appearances this season. Jurickson Profar has been filling in at short for Texas.
May 22 - 5:17 PM

Adrian Beltre (hamstring) took grounders hit right at him on Tuesday.

But the veteran third baseman still isn't doing any lateral movement and is likely still a couple weeks away from returning to the Rangers' active roster. Beltre has been out since May 15 with a left hamstring strain. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will continue to fill in at the hot corner for the Rangers.
May 22 - 5:15 PM

Brett Gardner is out of the Yankees' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Rangers.

Giancarlo Stanton is in left field and batting third, with Aaron Hicks in center field and hitting leadoff versus Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels. Tyler Austin is at DH and Neil Walker is playing first base.
