David Nelson caught one pass for 25 yards in Friday's preseason game.
The second-quarter grab was Nelson's only target. The Jets' de facto No. 2 receiver now has four grabs for 39 yards through three preseason games. He has no fantasy value.
Ryan Mallett completed 2-of-3 passes for 14 yards in one series of work against the Panthers Friday night.
Mallett replaced Tom Brady for one series in the first quarter, and did not see the field again all night. It was likely a mind game from coach Bill Belichick to see if Mallett could handle being unexpectedly thrust into the starting lineup. Mallett performed well, and the fact that Belichick tried the experiment on Mallett instead of Jimmy Garoppolo suggests Mallett is the favorite to open the season as Brady's backup. Mallett has completed 14-of-26 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown this preseason.
Jerrel Jernigan caught 3-of-4 targets for 22 yards in Friday's preseason game.
His fourth target was a catchable ball he probably should have corralled. Jernigan hast just six grabs for 41 yards through four preseason games. With first-rounder Odell Beckham (hamstring) on the shelf, Jernigan's roster spot is likely secure, but he's further than ever from fantasy relevance.
Jarrett Boykin had no catches on two targets in Friday's preseason game against the Raiders.
Boykin clearly played ahead of second-round rookie Davante Adams, lining up with the first-stringers in all three-wide sets. But through three preseason games, Boykin has compiled just three catches for 21 yards and no touchdowns. It highlights the volume concerns coupled with "JAG" kind of ability. Boykin is more of a fantasy WR4 than WR3 to open the season.
Stephen Hill secured only 1-of-4 targets for 12 yards in Friday's regular-season dress rehearsal.
He also committed a drop. It was a thoroughly uninspiring evening for a player who's on the roster bubble. The No. 43 overall pick of the 2012 draft now has just two grabs for 29 yards through three preseason games. Hill's career is trending in the wrong direction.
Jace Amaro hauled in all four of his targets for 37 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game.
Amaro caught a 15-yard drag from Geno Smith on the Jets' first play from scrimmage, and hauled in a one-yard score one quarter later. He has eight catches for 79 yards and a touchdown through three preseason games. Amaro figures to be inconsistent as a rookie, but is on the fantasy radar as a back-end TE2. He could prove to be a streaming option. The targets are there for the taking in New York's offense.
Panthers WR Jason Avant did not catch a pass against the Patriots Friday night.
He was targeted once. Avant started the game, and will likely play in three-reciver sets this season. Avant has one catch for 25 yards this preseason. He has no fantasy value.
Joique Bell had seven carries for 24 yards in Friday night's preseason game.
Bell rotated evenly with Reggie Bush and was the primary third down back. He got the majority of red-zone work, though he did lose a carry to Theo Riddick at the goal-line in the second quarter. Bell has potential to lead Detroit in carries this season and is good value at his current fifth-round ADP. He has 11 carries for 42 yards (3.81 YPC) through three preseason games.
